Ah my first blog ever! For some reason, I didn't realize how good of an idea it would be to blog about living in rome when I FIRST came here, but at least I'm starting at some point!
This blog is about the beginning, arriving in Rome. I'm currently a Michigan State Student studying abroad in Rome for 6 weeks. On May 22nd I left my hometown, Chicago and flew to Detroit airport and then from there we (study abroad group) flew to Rome! It was a long day of flying to say the least. I sat next to jenna on the trip there and watched harry potter. The meals were nasty of course. But finally after a 10 hour flight we arrived. We were then driven to our apartments by the AUR staff (American University of Rome). My apartment is so bigggg! I would later find out that we got the best apartment out of everyone else :)
After we got here, me and the roommates (trista, caroline, fran, carrie, and ashlee) walked around our area and found a grocery store and bought some groceries. We then headed back to the apartment because we had a group dinner with everyone. We went to some random restaurant with the rest of the group (31 people) at this really cute italian restaurant. However, the food wasn't too awesome but MSU paid for it so that's fine by me.
Afterwards, the whole group and edgar (our trip leader who lives in rome) gave us a tour through trastevere, which is a smaller area near central rome that has all the little italian streets and restaurants on the side. We stopped at a bar and all got grande peroni beers which are equal in taste to lebatt in the u.s. We all looked super american though walking through the streets with our beer, it was really funny. We then ended up at camo di' fuori which is this piazza that has a lot of trendy restaurants and bars, so we all went to this super american bar called the drunken ship and hung out there. It wasn't my favorite since there were so many sketchy italians looking for drunk americans and it was so tiny. Only after an hour we left and went back home.....and that concludes the first night in Rome!
