The next day we got to sleep in a bit because it was the weekend and we didn't have our tour until 2. It was our biggest tour of the trip, going to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Our usual tour guide was there and we toured the Roman Forum first, which is basically a bunch of excavated buidings dating back to Roman Empire. I even got to see where Julius Caesar was cremated! There were many flowers and gifts on ths big pile of dirt from the Italians. It's really cool and last time I was here I didn't have a tour guide so this time I learned a lot about the history that I never would of know about. Unfortunately my camera died right before we went to the Colosseum but fortunately since I live in rome I have the advantage of going back whenever I have free time. We then went to the Colosseum which is amazing. As usual. I can't believe how structured it was and how well it was built. Nowadays there's nothing built that well. Overall it was a very long day and my feet were killing me by the end. Me and kyle were starving and he mentioned he knew of a couple restaurants nearby that were good so we trekked it all the way to his area and finally found a random restaurant on the tram line. I got pizza and it was pretty good. Afterwards I went home and napped for a bit and then everyone came over and hung out. However, being Italy we constantly had to remember to keep our voices down and with all of us it got pretty loud.
The next day we woke up super early to go to the market that happens nears the Victor Emanual statue every sunday. It was amazing! It was so big and there was just an endless row of tents all the way down this one street. The only thing that was annoying was all the vendors that would shout at you to come over and buy something. At this market though you can bargain so I bargained almost everything I bought and I'm very proud of myself! I bought a lot of stuff including some gifts (mom i think you'll be very excited about your gifts ) After we were done we went home and I took a short 30 min nap before we met up again downtown for another tour of the Capitoline Museum which is the most important one in rome. I was starting to get really tired of all the tours, but Tom said we like to get them done early before it gets too hot in rome. We started our tour, and I remembered most of it from being here before. We saw constantine (the statue that used to be outside the colosseum before the fire) which is so big! His head alone was bigger than two of me put together! Basically we saw a ton of statues that had been recovered from a long time ago, and we learned a lot about the emperors that ruled the roman empire. The roman empire was super vicious and it seemed that anyone important got killed in some horrible way for doing something wrong. It's crazy how strict they were back then.
After we went through most of the museum (we skipped all the paintings which I was sad about because I would rather see that than the random statues) we went to the top of the building where the cafeteria is and saw an amazing view of rome. Soooooo beauitful up there. This blog picture is of me at the top of the museum. I think it's so cool how all of the houses in rome have red shingles roofs and they all look similar. Makes the architecture and the city so much more pretty. After awhile of looking out my stomach started grumbling and we weren't sure where to eat so Tom showed us this pizzeria nearby that was really really good. However, it was earlier in the day and most Italian restaurants don't open up until 7 pm so it was a limited menu. After our meal I went home and napped for a good long time. All the tours of the weekend definitely took some out of me. Overall it was a very busy weekend, and I started to realize that this is how it was going to be for the rest of trip. This is the first weekend that I haven't had to go, go, go and that's why I've been able to blog so much haha. This trip is wearing me out, but it's been so fascinating at the same time.
