Hola!!
Well instead of studying for my history test, I thought I would write about some of my latest adventures!! ;)
Two weekends ago, Camille and I went to Malaga to meet up with her parents and brother who flew in from New York. We met them in the city and then went to their resort in Fuengirola (or as her dad likes to call it – freakin-gola – because it was so hard to find!!) about 30 minutes outside of Malaga. It was a beautiful resort and we had beautiful weather so we spent the weekend sunbathing and relaxing! We came back on Sunday just in time for midterms to start on monday!!
Midterms weren’t bad at all as it turns out. I only had two that week, out of my four classes, and I ended up doing pretty well on them! I did catch a cold during last week and wasn’t feeling too well!! I think I got sick because I didn’t have any oranges for about a week. We ran out, and Loli couldn’t go get more because of the rain!! So she made me cups of hot water, lemon and honey to gargle with every night and that helped!!
So now, I am feeling all better, the sun is shining every day (70 degrees this week!) and midterms are over – for now!
Back to fun classes and barely any homework! A few weeks ago in my Spanish class our teacher spent the whole time teaching us bad words in Spanish! It was pretty funny; we all seemed like little eight year olds snickering after hearing bad words for the first time! I am not proud to say that I somehow started the conversation when trying to ask how you say Bidet in Spanish (don’t ask why I wanted to say bidet…)! I couldn’t think of the word in English, so I was trying to describe it in Spanish. I only happen to know the bad word for butt, not the more polite one, so it came out a bit impolite! I ended up asking “what is that thing in the bathroom, next to the toilet that you use to clean your ass with water?” My teacher couldn’t hold in her laughter at what I said, and thus started our conversation! Ha ha
This last weekend I went to Ireland from Thursday till Sunday! It was a long journey to get there and back but well worth it! I took a bus to the bus station, a bus to Malaga (1.5 hours), a 45 minute bus to the airport and then a 2.45 hour plane ride to Dublin! It was fun to be there on Paddy’s day weekend! Lots of setting up for St. Patrick’s Day! I met up with my friend from my college who is studying abroad in Austria. She was in Dublin for the weekend too so I got to hang out with her which was really nice since she has been abroad all year!! I got back to Granada on Sunday night late and was exhausted! This week is very short though – we only have classes Monday through Wednesday and we head out to Morocco on Thursday till Monday (Classes don’t resume till Wednesday…I am NEVER in school!!)
Last week we went to a discoteca called Camborio, up in the Albyzin – an old Muslim neighborhood up on a hill with great views of the Alhambra. The reason I mention it is because it is inside a bunch of caves! There are a series of caves that they have made into this discoteca and at the top of the cave is a terrace that has spectacular views of the Alhambra and the city! It was my first time there and I really enjoyed it!
Another first last week was my visit to the Alhambra. For how famous it is and how much I have seen it and talked about it, I had not been inside it until last week!! We went with my art class and got to see the defensive part of the Alhambra. There are many visits we take to the Alhambra, seeing a new section of it each time! We got to see places that are closed off to the public which was very neat! We had great weather too so it was difficult not to completely enjoy it!
That’s all for now!! Hope everyone is doing well!!
More later when I get back from Marruecos!
