Day 69 and 70. The town of Streaky Bay is very pretty and it has many lovely 19th century buildings and cottages. SA has retained so much of its heritage and really looks after it. That combined with its setting on the bay make it a most attractive destination. We had to purchase a microwave here as ours has stopped working so we left a few shekels here.
Then on to Cowell via Ellison. We followed the Bight coast to Ellison, then drove across the Eyre Peninsula to Cowell on Spencer's Gulf. We drove through lovely country, fields green with wheat and barley, with the ocean and sand dunes in the distance. Blossoms are just coming out on fruit trees and there are lots of flowers out by the roadside. We had no idea how lovely the Eyre Peninsula is. There is a wonderful clear light about it, bright but not harsh. Ellison and Cowell are like Streaky Bay, lovely old buildings in a seaside setting.
Had dinner at the Franklin Harbour Hotel here in Cowell. The Pacific Oysters were the best we have had for ages, being local, fresh and large. The King George whiting was good too, being a local speciality. Noticed that the hotel ran a husband minding service, so I might leave RM here! But I would miss him. He wants to stay though!
Walked around the town and foreshore this morning. This town has wonderful buildings and a lovely geography! The local Lions Club built a walkway over the mangroves to the ocean, a lovely walk. There is the inevitable but adorable pier as well.
