Day 6 dawns cold and fine in Barcaldine. This is a beautiful small town, impressive in its attention to its heritage and street scape. The main attraction is the Memorial to the Tree of Knowledge, famous as the site the sharers gathered in 1891 to fight the bosses pay cuts and ensure 'the sheds 'll be shore union'! Last night, we had a lovely meal at Corones Hotel. RM had a beautiful steak and me, what else but bangers and mash. This am, we set off for Barcaldine. A cool day all the way. We drove through lovely Blackall, on the Pardoo River. Also home to Jackie Howe, gun shearer. Seven hours on, we arrived at our destination and, using Camps 6, sought out the local Show ground to set up camp. This was again, a great choice! What a terrific resource for the town and for us...
