"Anyone got any toilet roll" - Phil 6th August 2012
So we arrived in Mui Ne at about 12 yesterday and went straight to the hotel (Hai Yen). We dropped our bags off and headed for a relaxing afternoon by the pool........obviously this included shoulder wars and helping Rosella face her fear of putting her head under water :)
After our swim, Rosella requested that we all went for a romantic walk along the beach. Who could say no to that? The romantic walk was as you would have probably expected. Dead fish that had been washed ashore by the strong waves, a bit of a "dead fish fight", and Dan and I walking along holding hands like proud parents, looking on at Rosella and Phil chasing each other down the beach.
After our romantic walk we headed to dinner. We walked along the main road until we came to a row of restaurants that had fresh fish outside in tanks and decided to give it a try. I ordered butter and garlic prawns which turned out to be the biggest and best prawns I have ever eaten - leading to me splashing out on another plate. Rosella and Dan shared some prawns and a red snapper, called Jeremy. He was happy when we met him but I am not quite sure how he felt as he was smashed against the pavement by the waiter. Oh well....that's the circle of life......and apparently he tasted quite good.
This morning we got up at half 4 and started our jeep tour, first stop was the white sand dunes for sunrise. We hired quad bikes and paired off. Phil and Dan jumped on the first one, with Rosella and I hopping on the next. We drove up to the top of the sand dunes in time to get pictures of the sunrise and then spent the rest of the half an hour messing around on the quad bikes, all having a go at driving.
After the white sand dunes were the red sand dunes, which after having a walk around and watching people sledge down, we moved on to the fishing village. This was bizarre! It was full of people walking into the sea with buckets, placing them in the water, and bringing the buckets back a minute later full of fish. I have never seen so much fish in one place. It's actually quite hard to explain in words but I will post some pictures when I get a chance. After the fishing village was the final stop of the day, the fairy stream. We walked up the stream, saw some sandstone, and it was all quite pretty actually.
After the tour, the jeep dropped us back at our hotel at 8.30am and we headed back to bed until half 11, when we needed to check out. We spent the rest of today sat by the pool and relaxed before heading for dinner again. We headed for a similar meal but decided to be more adventurous. Dan and I shared scallops and calamari, whilst Phil and Rosella had a red snapper each and shared some scallops. We all then also shared a shark!!! Picked from the tank and weighed for us, Sharky was then carried into the back to be killed and barbecued with butter and garlic. It wasn't my favourite thing I've tried but I gave it a go. Rosella and Dan did a great job demolishing it though.
We have spent the rest of this evening playing cards and having a few beers and are now waiting for our 6 hour night bus to Nha Trang, to snorkel and party!!!
