We woke up at 11:30 knowing that the bus we wanted to catch was at 1 o'clock. We therefore commenced our packing at 1:10 after watching several programmes on the discovery channel! Needless to say we missed our bus!
However, we left the hotel for lunch in high spirits to catch the 3pm bus instead. We stopped for lunch in a really nice cafe and jumped on the bus with seconds to spare with no knowledge whether or not our bags had in fact been loaded. The only cnfirmation we had was that Nic thought he saw three of our our bags. Oh well, we took the gamble - it did not pay off. Kidding it did, we arrived with all our belongings.
The bus journey itself was SO FUN! After planning what genre of company the four of us will set up in the future to earn the multimillions we will need to maintain our hostel lifestyle, we bought fried crickets from a crazy lady who literally chased our bus onto our ferry to sell them to us! You need to remove the legs first but everything else (wings, head, eyes, organ systems) you eat! Josh ate his first (lad) and Nic ate his last (shlad). The initial crunch is not too pleasing but the taste itself wasnt too bad - spicy tomato chicken flavour.
We later stopped off at a half way cafe where we got "food". Josh ordered a 75p chicken spring roll which didn't have any chicken in and tastes vile. He bought another one and asked for chicken but it was equally vile - Chris and josh had to run out of the cafe to spit it out in a bush! Back on the bus the journey continued smoothly and we arrived in ho chi Minh city after only 7hours - 2 faster than expected.
We found the road our hostel was supposed to be on but number 84 was missing! It turned out the hostel was on a sidealley full of chickens but despite it's relatively gross exterior the actual room was AWESOME!
Joshs map skills let us down again as he took us for about 20mins in the complete opposite direction to the restaurant we wanted to go to. When we eventually got in a taxi to go there it was closed so we ended up eating in a small Vietnamese restaurant which was equally nice. Exhausted after a days travelling we got into bed and played games for a couple of hours before falling asleep
