After arriving in Shanghai and finding our hotel, we headed out to the busy pedestrian shopping street. On every shop entrance was someone who said exactly the same three words: Watch, DVD, Bag! ChanChan warned us before we went that people would quitely whisper this in our ears, but this was anything but quiet.
That evening we decided to go up the famous Oriental TV Tower. The views of the city at night were amazing, and as far as the eye could see there were sky scrapers. The following day we did the opposite and went up the Shanghai Pearl Tower, which I think is the 4th tallest in the world. From the top we could see an even taller building being built next to it with what looked like a very large bottle opener at the top. We could also see the Yangtze River delta in the distance, and all along the river were huge cargo boats winding their way to the sea.
After that we walked along the Bund at the river front and kept getting people come up to try and talk with us, and get their pictures taken alongside tall westerners.
In the evening we went to see the Shanghai Acrobats. WOW! It features people diving through hoops at ridiculous heights, swinging and climbing up poles and even people as young as 10 balancing on several steel pipes laid on top of each other. They finished the show with 6 motorbikes in a large death ball doing loops around it and narrowly missing each other.
Thats pretty much it from Shanghai until we caught a daunting 24 hour train to Yangshou.
