Not much to say about Hanoi. It was pretty hot at about 28 degrees C and we only stayed there for 2 days. We stayed in the Old Quarter which was just a maze of little streets. Everybody used motorbikes instead of cars and the roads were extremely chaotic. We found the best way to cross the road was to just walk out infront of the busy traffic and let them do the work avoiding you. I have a video that i will put up of us crossing, but its probably best our mums didnt watch, they'd never stop worring.
We walked out to the Hanoi Hilton which is the old prison the french built to execute revolutionaries. We also went to the war museum where they had 100's of weaponsand vehicles like US helicopters and tanks they had captured. It was different to back home as you could actually climb the vehicles, open hatches on tanks and practically touch whatever you wanted. Something that was strange as well was how they displayed guns and celebrated the amount of Americans they had killed with them.
In the evening we went to Le Pub as recommended by the bible as jack was now calling it (Lonely Planet Guide). Here we had the cheapest beer ever - Beer Hanoi for 30p a pint. Cant remember much else that day...
We then went out to Halong Bay, a large bay with thousands of small islands. We went out on a 2 day tour on a luxury boat that was dirt cheap (1,500,000 Dong, that's actually not that much) We spent the 2 days slowly drifting around the tropical islands, eating beautiful sea food and swimming and kayaking in bath hot water!
Later we headed back to Hanoi for a night and left the next day for Vietianne, Laos by bus. This is when we had our first throw up of the trip with Jack being the culprit after a combination of mountain roads and bad pineapple. Anyway to leave you on a good note we nearly got left at the border when the bus drove on about half a mile to park without telling us.
