Monday morning and we woke up at the campsite near the hook. The plan was to head for Amsterdam and go from there. The plan didn't happen. When we checked the time it was nearly 2pm and we were still bathing on the beach reading our books. Oops. Well not really oops, this is how we expected it to go. We moseyed back to the camp and met a crazily cute baby goat along the way. We didn't have anything to feed it with but it was happy to chew my finger. Awesome. We decided to skip Amsterdam for today but move on to a new spot (somewhere cheaper). BK found a place in our Camperstop Europe book that was at a cheese farm. Well I wasn't gonna say no to that!!! The trouble was, that the book only has the name of the place, and the GPS coordinates. Fortunately, I have a map of Europe on my phone, but you can't search by coordinates. It DOES however tell you the coordinates of the place your looking at. So basically it's a Europe wide game of pin the tail on the donkey. Becci reckons she's always been really good at that, and to be fair she has (and I have) been doing a pretty good job of it so far. So once we found the farm in a town called Katwoude, we set off. We ended up having to drive right around Amsterdam to get there (a 3 hour drive) but it was a cheese farm! A CHEESE farm. Free freaking CHEESE. And to add to that, they made clogs. SHOES!!! Me and Becci would have walked across hot coals to get to this place! We got there fairly easily which was confirmation that our coordinates-donkey technique would work for the future. The place was closing when we arrived but there were more goats and some chickens and a big plastic cow to keep us company. We chowed down on some more pasta, and called it a night.
The signs in the car park of the farm said we were to be off by 9:30. we woke up to an alarm the next day; those weren't chickens... Bloody roosters! Good ones too. Proper cockadoodledooing! At least we were packed up and ready to go by 9:30, not that I think anyone there really cared. It was a big car park with us and two Winnebagos and nothing else really. We wandered down to see what was happening at the farm/visitors bit where it said entree over the door. We wandered in thinking there'd be a desk or something, but there wasn't. We carried on and wondered whether you were supposed to just wander round on your own, but it soon became obvious that you're not. We turned and went to leave when a girl came skipping down asking us if we want a tour and a tasting of their cheese. She showed us their Cheese making bit and we learnt about Gouda. We learnt how they made clogs and i got to turn my hand at some traditional carving. we tried some clogs on (surprisingly comfy actually) and then got to the tasting room! We got to have a go on their wine, and some traditional stroop waffles and then 9 different cheeses!! So happy!! We bought some Cumin Gouda, but were torn between Stinging nettle Gouda and Onion and garlic Gouda as well. As we left a coach load of people turned up and we realised how we were lucky to get a private tour. With that we hopped back in Lynn and set of for Amsterdam!
Bosh! x x
