Ok, so this is overdue, because despite the date saying the 6th July and my location being Norwich, BK and I are half way across the Netherlands and its the 9th July. But I wanted to fill people in on everything we did leading up to the trip. So here's a (hopefully quick) recap.
We decided around christmas that we would have a go at driving round Europe in a big old car that we could maybe chuck a bed in. By March we'd saved up just enough to get something, and thats when we found 'Hagrid': a huge Chrysler grand voyager. Long story short... It was a pile of poop. After several niggly problems, a semi major problem, and then a fatal one, Hagrid was no more. Sad times. The trip was off!
Or so we thought...
Little did we know that deep in the heart of Hoveton, Norfolk, Super-Nan and her buddy, Mum-Wonder (real identities nanny Pat and Mumsy Karen) were hatching a master plan that would mean we could still go. And with replenished enthusiasm (and funds: thank you so, so much mum and nan) we were on the car search again. This time reliability was key, and it was something we were struggling to find in a car that was big enough for us to crash in. wait, "crash" as in "sleep"! Sleep in! Big enough for us to sleep in. Tempting fate or what...?! Anyway we were starting to get frustrated and i was considering driving to London to view some cars, when a chance stroll through anglia square led me to Lynn. (That's what we've named her (as in Alan Partridge's assistant. big, lovely, reliable... a bit slow...)) She's a Nissan Largo. 7 seater Japanese import. Great engines supposedly. And she's done us well so far. So me and becci started kitting her out more or less straight away. Furthest rear seats gone. Some storage in the sides, and a table and storage box that would make the base of the bed. The storage box has a flap that folds over to rest on the middle seats which spin to face backwards. There should be photos that may explain this better somewhere. Anyway we were getting there but things kept holding us up. Considering the very first, original plan was to leave at the end of may it felt like a miracle when we actually booked the ferry for Sunday the 7th July. Even then, we weren't sure that we'd be ready in time and may still need to change it. We still had a curtain to make and cash that needed to go in the bank and cooking equipment to test and loads of other things. Laurence was starting to joke that HE'd be on Europe before we would. But we got there. Half the list didn't get done, but we needed to go, so we did. So Sunday morning we were up at 7am and we were off. And that's that for now. Il post more soon.
