Mickey - We began our first day here in Sweden with a lovely late breakfast around 12 (yaaaaay, sleeping in for once!). I got Joseph to eat my favorite breakfast: ypghurt with granola and honey, yum. Then he tried a boiled egg for the first time in his life...? What? He claims his parents only feed him beans... tisk. But he had this egg with kaviar (swede thing) and said it tasted like the sea and that two types of eggs (land and sea) should never be put together. :) Next, I dragged Joseph out of the house to go swimming, promising him that it will be warm. ;) After a long hike over the cliffs past the main beach we got to "skum buktarna" (no idea how to spell that) which is a shallow pool half-connected to the ocean. Before we swam we went exploring some and found a lightbulb caught among all the rocks and decided to have a contest of who could hit the lightbulb with a rock and break it first. While we were having a great time throwing rocks at the bulb this completely naked lady starts swinging her arms at us and making all sorts of weird "no!" signals at us. We tried really hard not to imitate her and laugh at this naked crazy lady but we controlled ourselves and walked away. Some Swedes don´t seem to realize their nakedness is not appreciated in public places... But anyway, I eventually convinced Joseph to swim with me and he admitted it was pretty warm for what he expected. (And by convinced I mean I threw seaweed at him until he got more than his feet in the water) 0:) I am such a great encourager! Hopefully by now he´s learned that he will always have to swim no matter how much he complains and that it is always not as cold as he makes it up to be in his head. On our way back we saw two minks (at different times) and I chased them with the camera while Joseph stood on higher ground and told me where to go if I lost sight of it. (joseph- i got close to it once she had him cornered) They were so, so, so cute and they did not seem very scared of me. I got really close to the first one and when they were running from me they were pretty slow and stopped constantly to look back at me as though wondering "are you still following me?". My grandma informed me that these minks aren´t natural to the islands and that they were released into Norway by the Germans during WWII (they were storing them for furs). Supposidely it is very rare to see them here since hunters were brought to the island a while back to kill off any minks since they eat all the bird eggs and baby birds. I´ve been to this island my entire life and never seen one before... then Joseph shows up and sees two on his first day here, wow. :) We spent about 5 hours out exploring the cliffs and chasing animals until we came home for some yummy dinner :P I guess we didn´t tire of hiking after Austria! Relaxation is overrated ;)
Joseph - Always let Mickey blog first is the thirty third rule of blogging, or else you will get cut short. So we arrived in Sweden yesterday, greeted with the warm hospitality of the Mudsams. If only I lived close to them while in college, then maybe I could eat good food all the time! Anyways, it was quite eerie when I got to the island, for this island had every part of our travels incorporated in it. The rocks of greece, the feilds of italy, the vegetation of austria, the small town feel of rothensburg and ... yeah thats it. I keep reflecting back on our 3 week adventure and trying to incorporate it in everything I do or see, almost like I don't want to part ways with the travels quite yet. But Koster proved to be an adventure in itself! The island landscape and flower life is refreshing and original. At first you can be walking through (why are the letters "O, G, and H" in the word through?) a feild full of wonderful wildflowers (that mickey seems to know every name of) and then you hit a feild full of rocks and seaweed! Once you balance your way through that, you are hiking a giant cliffboulder thing, looking into a patch of "greener on the otherside"-green type of grass. Then as your mind is being bombarded with all these different landscapes, you´re lost in a mini forrest wondering where the hell that nice sandy beach was. Oh, and there are only 4 types of animals on the island; mink, seagulls, crab, and jellyfish. I could write much more but mickey wants to watch her movie (and feed me candy I hope!)I seem to have forgotten rule number 302, which states if mickey wants to do something afterwards, you better type like a New York news editor right after 9/11! (mickey states that was forced comedy, I dont mean to be forceful. just funny. :(

Joe P JFR, your lovely family is in Guadalajara, cooking up some beans for your return----don't you know? We are glad you are on the island. Glad you're with grandparents. They are the ones, after all, who really dote on these adventures. Your comments about the island incorporating a bit of all your travels was sooooo interesting----and also that you hate to let it go just yet.
Patrick grandparents LATE Sunday night: Who's that guy in the B&W photo? How about some pictures, and include those terrific grandparents---and say hello to them from us. Genie and Joe
