Joseph - Our journey has come to an end. It bothers me to type that, it is sad to think not another adventure awaits after every mistake. What a life changing 3 weeks it has been, you really do learn a lot from observing other cultures. I feel passionate like the greeks, confident like the italians, humble like the austrians, and busy like the germans (at least the munich ones). Mickey and I came in with absolutely no plan, and left with life long memories and maturing lessons. But Now is not the time for thanks (but still thank you), or goodbyes, the thanks and good byes shall be in our last blog (we will continue blogging about our swedish adventures)...(hopefully not swimming adventures). We are now blogging from the comfortable, beautiful location of NordKostar. We just arrived from Amsterdam, Netherlands, home of the wicked and the damned (just kidding the wicked were only found in the red light district, everyone else seemed fairly nice). We had our share of small towns and huge (huge.) cities, and I have to say I liked amsterdam more than munich (even though both seem to have been over run by the turks). We stayed in the Tulip Inn Hotel just west of the city, which was nice because we escaped the noise but bad seeing as we had to take a bus to get to the center. Amsterdam is a curious city, one moment you are looking at big ugly appartments, next moment you are looking at a beautiful canal, or a gorgeous park. Mickey is eager to blog so I shall LET her tell you about the dudgeon and the many mueseums of amasterdam.
Mickey - *dungeon *museums *amsterdam ;)
So on our adventure through amsterdam on the hunt for Anne Frank´s "haus" we ended up sidetracking to a haunted house. This "Amsterdam´s Dungeon" showed the darker periods of Amsterdam´s history in an interactive play with creepishly costumed people. Thier makeup was great, this one guy had a hole just chilling in his forehead and it looked real... cool. So we entered this place of doom and started the 2 hour tour that would keep my adrenalin high the entire time. For some reason the actors decided Joseph and I were the perfect candidates to be harassed and scared the entire time (way more me, actually... Joseph was only chosen once). I tried hiding behind Joseph most of the time as we were sent walking through dark, scary rooms since I knew someone was hiding somewhere. However, once the actual story-telling began I was always chosen, usually summoned by "you, woman, come here." At both the plays about the inquisition and witch burnings we were targeted when the lights turned off so that the first thing we saw when the lights came back on was a creepy person about 3 inches from my face. On our tour to the courtrooms I was chosen to stand before the jury and answer some questions about why I was seen dancing naked in the rain and singing religious songs yesterday and making Joseph appear out of thin air. After I gave my half-laughing answers and testifying not guilty they called me a witch and decided I would either repeat the naked dance or be stretched to death. So, of course, I did the dance (just kidding... I stood at the stand awkwardly laughing until he banged his hammer and condemned me to hell. After this (and the judge getting everyone to boo at me) he asked me to go knock on a door three times (this door was in a scary, dark corner)... in which case I tried to avoid doing it but he made me anyway. I knocked on the door and stepped back as quickly as I could to avoid whatever was popping out... but the door just swung open to reveal a dark, super scary and creepy cabin thing. Then the evil judge made me walk into the room alone (without the group to hide behind) and so I inched my way in until I was standing in the middle. After a while I thought I was safe since no one was around, so I started to look around at the decorations curiously... but right when I did this and let my gaurd down some guy jumped out and almost killed me with fright. Usually I don´t scream when something scares me, but this time I did. The worst thing is that these people didnt just scare you then leave, they scared you and then stood there creepishly staring at you and getting all up in your space, making the fear last so much longer. However, I was finally released and returned with the group (happily hiding behind Joseph again) only to be brought into a madhouse for women. I´ve always hated dolls and creepy, crazy women (they kind of go together)... and here was both. We stood in the room with only the noise of a thread-weaver thing creaking back and forth and creepy screams now and then. I was staring at the thing controlling the cloth-weaver machine trying to figure out if it was a doll or a real person (it had its head down covered by a mess of hair) when it suddenly whipped its head around towards me with a scream and preceded to do a 360 degree head rotation. This is why I hate dolls. Especially moving ones. I was extremely happy to leave that room and go to a nice pirate ship where I was told to hold a bucket for anyone needing to empty some bowels. Joseph was chosen here (he´ll talk about it) and ended up getting all our group sold as slaves onto a trading ship (smooth, Joseph). We also went through a mirror room where this guy kept scaring me by showing up behind the mirrors, and a mini roller coaster and some other rooms that are too much to explain. But it was definitely a very fun experience (even though it may have scarred me), and I learned I make a good witch. >:) Next time the lights start flickering in your house... I´m there.
Joseph- Drink up me mateys yo ho. So I was tricked into signing my soul away to meet my almost certain death on dutch trading ship. Clever b******s. So we enter this "bar" and this pirate guy says he wants to play a drinking game with me and pulls out a bottle of rum. I quiver in my wee littal hiking boots from excitement to drink with this man. So he sets up this "score board" and asks me to write my name down. It turns out it was a contract, and that I had just signed my soul away. BUT, he cuts me a deal, if I were to drink this glass of rum he would set me free and imprison the rest of the people. I gladly step up to drink, but before i reach the glass, he fills it up with his finest snot and spit. I turn around say sorry to everyone for getting us all imprisoned, and kindly await his next speech. Await our next blog, which will be our adventures in Sweden.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!
Mixkey - actually theres more :) So we finally made it to Anne Frank´s house only to see a line for entrance that strecthed around the building, no thank you. We took pictures with the sign and were content. We were also denied going to the tulip museum since it was being renovated :( But we did get to see the red light district and several girls in some windows... yeah... and we were offered "live sex" from every sketchy man in a suit outside his "bar", in which case we politely said no and walked faster. oh, amsterdam :)
