Joseph- For the record I prefer Hamlet over this stupid excuse for a love story. Romeo is in love with the idea of love itself and Juliet just doesn't want to be daddy's little girl anymore. UGH. But unfortunately girls, and when I mean girls I mean Mickey, loves that crap so we went to Verona, Italy. We arrived at 8:30 p.m. leaving us with some daylight, but it turned out we needed more sunlight than that. There was no travel agency at the station to send us the right way so we wandered out to the bus stop. There we waited around a hour and a half for a bus to come, hopeful that it would take us somewhere with a place to sleep. It did just that and the bus brought us to the youth hostel of the city. This place was beautiful and looked like it used to be a old nunnery or something. Yet at 18 euros a night for a cottage with 20 other people and a horrible group showering area, no location or building could make it enjoyable. The best part was the included breakfast, which included rocks painted as toast and, I kid you not, coffee in a bowl. I threw my fist on the table and demanded "please sir can I have some more?" (Oliver twist reference for those who are confused). Anyway, we ended meeting this Korean medical student studying in Hungary and spent a lot of time with him. The next morning we parted ways with hell, and went to explore the city. It. Was. Beautiful. The buildings were tall and old, and there were statues everywhere. We walked around for hours and saw most of the city. I shall leave the balcony to Mickey...
So in my defense, Joseph is probably more of a romantic than I am! And he loved the Juliet site. I know it. Anyway,
so we explored a while before we found the entrance to the courtyard where Juliet and her balcony were. The walls leading to the yard were completely covered and recovered with signatures and names
of fellow romantics. We, along with the whole group of Asian tourists in front of us, molested Juliet (for good luck) by grabbing her boobs. I have to say, seeing a throng of old Asian men grabbing a statue's boob was hilarious. ;) We continued to explore the area and took lots of pictures of churches and Dante's statue (of course, since we read the Inferno this year in AP English... well I read it, I think Joseph did what most kids do and read sparknotes) ;)
He just told me he actually read "a good part of it before I got annoyed at it" :)
Joseph again-- Michaela is a great blogger but neglects many things, for example: FOOD. We ate two huge slices of pizza and 2 scoops of gelato before we left. Magnifco!
