Today was all about Vulcano. We took a short, half hour, ferry ride from Lipari to the island of Vulcano. We toured the town very briefly to get our bearings, and then began the climb! Today we travelled a short distance from our hotel in Milazzo on the beach, to the ferry port. Around 15 minutes. We were warned before leaving the port that the ferry will be delayed due to the weather. We had to wait around 40 minutes for the ferry When the ride started there was nothing to worry about, we all put our noses to the sky and laughed at the Sicillians HAHAHA! Today was a REALLY big travel day. We have spent hours in the bus. First we went to visit a cathedral that was built in the year 850. Its called La Cattolica and its tiny. Built on the very top of the mountain and it has only one room, but it is beautifully decorated. There was a tiny man that looks after it, and with soup nazi confidence says NO FOTOS. Today was mostly a travelling day. We stopped off at a local ruin site on the way to Crotone on the off chance it was open, the weren't but were very kind to us and let's us have a look around. Today we headed further south to Ruvo, then onto Matera. Ruvo is a very small town with a very large cathedral. Its very large and filled with beautiful windows, sculptures, frescos and a gorgeous statue of the madonna......with a built in flashing halo.
