Hey guys, I'm probably overdue for an update!
I should keep a small diary with me to write down whats happened since the last time I posted something, but i don't... and therefore I forget some of the details / events.
Still pretty tired from last night, had some beers round Suzie's house with Felix and Maria. We started the night off with some Elvis! Ha! Elvis! I can't remember the last time I listened to The King! Fastastic! Then we slipped into the Pulp Fiction soundtrack....
You know what the funniest thing about Europe is? What? It's the little differences. I mean they got the same sh** over there that they got here, but it's just, just there it's a little different. Example. Alright, well you can walk into a movie theater and buy a beer. And, I don't mean just like a paper cup, I'm talking about a glass of beer. And, in Paris, you can buy a beer in McDonald's. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris? They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with Cheese? No, man, they got the metric system, they don't know what the fu** a Quarter Pounder is. What do they call it? They call it a Royal with Cheese. Royal with Cheese. That's right. What do they call a Big Mac? Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it Le Big Mac. Le Big Mac. What do they call a Whopper? I don't know. I didn't go into Burger King.GENIUS!!!!!!!!
Actually while I remember I was speaking to a drunk guy the other night who claimed he is Elvis. Obviously the king is still alive!
The busking has been great and not so great as of late. Great because I came back with 50 quid in my pocket one day. Not so great because of the rain. Busking in Leipzig is like playing cricket in England. Rain stops play
However I also played at a party at some castle! Incredible place to play! Maria took some photos, I'm going to see if I can get those off her to show you all because the background just looks amazing! There was a great vibe about the place, not many people, but a great atmosphere. I think I played fro 40 mins, got free beer / licquor all night AND.. AND got paid! I got 30 quid off the girl that asked me to play, then a further 20 off her boyfriend! 50 quid!!! For 40 minutes work! If I had CD's I could probably have walked away with twice that. People came up to me after the gig and wanted to buy some stuff. One dude wanted to buy one for his girl, that gives me a great feeling! Looks like some day soon I'm gonna have to get soemthing recorded. Only problem apart from the rain.. perhaps a huge problem is the day I made 50 quid, I put my heart and soul into the performance, gave it everything I've got. Now I can't sing, it's too damn painful. Yesterday I just played some guitar and made money, but it doesn't flow so fast when your not singing. People stopto watch the intro to songs, but when they realise you don't sing they lose interest. I lost a lot of business yesterday because of this. I hope a week of rest should sort my throat out.
There's a guy in town at the minute called Jimmy Kelly. He was in a band that a lot of people in Germany loved a few years ago. He plays a set of just 4 songs, the shortest I've ever seen on the street. Stops, then the whole crowd just descends upon him to buy his CD's! I was speaking to him the other day, he had sold a whole box in one day, he must easily... easypeasy make 500 quid a day. Every day. He starts at 10 in the morning and does not stop until about 6pm. You can see it in his face though, he's exhausted. It takes so much out of you playing like that. Haha just remembered he's got a funny accent. His mother is Spanish and his father is American Irish, so you can imagine what a great time I'm having when I'm speaking to him. Some of the 'tings he says just crack me up
Went to the Hare Krishna temple on Sunday for the feast. God damn can those monks cook! Everything is made at the temple, even the ice cream and apple juice they make themselves! I walked in and saw a girl I know, she told me to pick a plate. So I got myself a dish and started walking to the kitchen and she was like "no, no, no.. just sit down"... So I did and within 5 seconds I had 4 monks round me just scooping food onto my plate! Thats better service than any restaurant I've ever been to! Even though there was no meat, it still tasted marvelous! Which you may find hard to beleive, I know I did! Pretty cool place, they have a Krishna shrine, but I didn't have the chance to see it because once the curtain surrounding him is open, he needs to be the center of everyones attention. I also came in just after all the singing and chanting, just in time for the food
I'm not sure if I'm travelling with them yet, I was speaking to Nadia yesterday and she said the monks have no idea when they are leaving. It could even be today, thats too soon for me, I've got things planned for the next 2 days. If I don't go with the monks, theres a place in Leipzig where you can do some car sharing. So I might see if anyone is going to Munich in the next few days and catch a lift with them. Alternatively, buy a bike and slowly make my way South? It was a dream I had this morning... We'll see what happens.
Anyone I need to go make some money for breakfast :p
Jonny the monkey!
