So much stuff has been going on, I don't really know where to start...
I got kicked out of Maria's house by her mother who never really took a liking to me. Pretty funny until I realised that meant I was homeless until the next week when Maria moves into her university apartment.
The wednesday night I stayed at the sleepy lion hostel in Leipzig, quite nice but also quite expensive. I ended up with their cheapest room which set me back by 16 quid! Theres no way in hell I can afford to spend that kind of money every day! AND.. AND there were 4 people in a room of 8 that snored, so I spent 16 of my English pounds... on a hot shower and not a wink of slumber!
The thursday night was an interesting one, I took the train to no-where, got off and started walking down the road to have a car pull up next to me, the driver asking where it is that I'm going... It went a little like this:
Driver: Where ya headed?
Me: No idea... I've got a tent though *thumbs up, cheezy grin*
Driver: I know somewhere you can put it, jump in :D
The rest of the night was pretty unexpected, he took me to a childrens play area and had his way with me...
Only joking :p he took me to the park and left me to get the tent up, then came back a few minutes latertelling me it was cool if I wanted to sleep at his house. Jackpot! Lady luck is smiling on me today :D Went round, his Mum cooked me the most amazing thing I've ever eaten, Two slices of toast, Eggs, Cheese, Finely chopped bacon and mini salami! Greg.. you need to learn how to make this, its the ultimate Spartan meal! I played a few songs for them as thanks, took a quick shower and jumped into my sleeping bag for the night. Only downside of the day was having to get up at 5:55a.m. so that the lad who picked me up could get to work in town!
The following nights sleep allows me to introduce one of my busking friends. He introduces himself as Fidl, he's a singer /songwriter on the streets and at political rallies and demonstrations. I don't fully understand what he sings about, but I know its very anti-Nazi, anti-establishment and against racism, poverty etc.etc... He told me about a squat house in Leipzig where I could stay, after never being anywhere near a squat I had no idea what to expect. Well, I half expected to wake up dead, robbed or just generally miserable. However, I was so tired from the day before, I just didn't give a damn, but I couldn't go to sleep straight away. Fidl took me to a party on the Friday night where I entertained some of his guests in exchange for free Vegan food and beer. Then one of his mates, Adol, took me to the squat. This guys an absolute legend, he's Irainian, can speak 5 languages badly and has two of the most amazing dogs I've ever met!
So I had the best nights sleep I'd had in 2 days at this place, had my breakfast cooked for me by Adol and returned the favour by washing up all the dishes. He was cooking for about 6 people and then gave us the grand tour...
These guys have everything... And I mean everything! Gig halls, disco room, cinema, woodworking room, metalworking room, recycling area, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, guestrooms, toilets, running water, about 20 dogs, a few less cats and 2 rats I didn't get the pleasure of meeting!
Its a whole world within itself, they receive a lot of donations and make their money from putting on theatre productions, selling beer and having gigs. The public bring them old metal and wood which they use to restore the building and they have a free shop where anyone can go and get free clothes. Free! Shop!! FREE!!! My jacket hasn't been keeping me warm enough early in the morning and late at night so I took a jumper and a new jacket, and gave them my old jacket in return.
So last night I went to a punk gig at the squat, took Maria has some beers, danced and talked... talked about something jonny doesn't talk about. Politics. I'll explain why.
Fidl isn't the only guy that opposes the fascists here, theres quite a lot. And for 2 days I've been completely exposed to how and what the anarchists think. Before I didn't care about the affairs of other men, their decisions didn't make sense to me, but now I feel like it should mean something. In the last 2 days Germany has succeeded in completely screwing with my head, I'm finding myself sat for hours staring into my coffee, trying to get my head straight about the whole thing. I'm gonna have to come back to you on this one, I'm going to a demonstration against survaillance cameras in a few minutes and need to get going.
Sorry for the size of that essay, I figure a lots happened in the past couple of days!
Peace (Jonny the anarchist?)
