European Adventure 2017
It was hard to tear ourselves away from Nerac with its flowers, beautiful views and soaring swallows. However after the usual breakfast of fruit and fresh croissants we set off upstream for Condom. It was a cooler morning with rain and wind forecast but we must have outrun it as the sun came out for us prior to lunch and it soon became very hot again. The river in this part is very narrow and often the trees met over head which made it very picturesque. A brief stop on a mooring at Moncrabeau for lunch and then we continued on our way arriving at Condom at about 3pm. A quick walk through the town which is on a hill in the heat of the day was hard work but we did manage to find a bar and have a drink half way around. The Cathedral was a must with its beautiful interior and cool temperature. Outside was a statue of the Muskateers but no story with it so we guess that D'Artagnon may have been born here in Condom area. Despite its connotations Condom had no connection with the well known contraceptive although possibly because of its name there is apparently now a museum dedicated to the subject. It wasn't sign posted so we didn't bother to try to find it. It's Saturday night here and the locals lads are whizzing around on little Vesper like motorbikes, making a hell of a racket trying to attract the girls. Don't think it's working actually! We had a bit of a shower of rain earlier so we sheltered under our Motorhome supplied umbrellas on the fly bridge while having happy hour. When there was a break in the drops Mandy shook hers out and lent it against the railing but didn't realise there was a gap there and it plunged into the decidedly yellow tinged murky waters. Sir Galahad Leicester raced to the rescue throwing out one of the ropes to lasoo the umbrella before it sank as it was out of boat hook reach. Eventually he dragged it ashore and we had one very relieved Mandy! Half of the team have gone off to buy pizzas tonight for tea. We have been told that a new problem has arisen with the lock just before our finish point and that where we are here in Condom is to be our last stop. We have now opted to stay until tomorrow afternoon and then taxi back to Agen and pick up the Motorhomes thus giving us an extra day on the trip back to Callais.

Shirley The canal boat sounds fantastic & has made us think we should put it on our list - maybe next year!. Tell Mandy we had the same safe problem in Fiji !. Of course working on Fiji time - nobody came to look at it. Turned out John had accidentally re-set it with a different number! - we tried for a day or two & finally got the combination right. We've had nice days back here in ChCh, so has made the transition back to winter bearable!. Look forward to next entry xx
