European Adventure 2017
This town is so pretty and there is quite a lot to see so we decided to leave the boat tied up here and go for a wander today, stay the night and head off tomorrow. The cost to stay in the port is €10 a night for the boat and for that we get power, water and free showers on the quay. Not bad at all! We went through Henri lV's chateaux which is now a museum, looked at the magnificent Church of St Nicolas and now we are sitting outside Henri lV's tavern in 24 degrees and having an iced coffee. Very pleasant. Today is all about relaxing and taking our time as it has been a busy schedule so far however we haven't wanted to miss a thing so have been happy with the pace. We the lock issue has been resolved and we can continue our way up the river. There are baskets, barrels and window boxes full of flowers all over Nerac, on every street corner, outside buildings and all along the waterfront. The council workers have watering cans working flat out first thing in the morning and the whole town looks lovely and colourful. A walk up to the Notre Dame cathedral of Nerac was worthwhile. The stained glass windows were so bright and colourful - unfortunately my camera didn't pick the colours up very well at all. Geoff ducked in for 'confession' But he was very quick as he couldn't remember anything he had done wrong! The story of Fleurette is a bit of a legend in these parts. The term 'to flirt' is believed to have originated from Fleurette who was the young daughter of a gardener at the castle. She met the future King Henri lV and had an affair with him in the years 1571-1572. When the King left her, legend has it she threw herself into the Baise River in despair and drowned. In fact she lived for another 16 years.

Viv Looks like a fun canal trip, some of the locks look amazing. Great blog Jo. Keep enjoying your splendid trip!
Dave Wonderfull places you're visiting. So much history makes them really thought provoking. It looks like some brilliant coffee, food & wine drinking too! We enjoy reading the blog and seeing all the photos. Enjoy.
Jo Kidd Thanks Viv. Having a blast!
Alison Wilton Henri's chateau doorway? He must have been tiny. Actually a group of older french people from the country came on a tour of a chateau and I was amazed to find that they were all my height with same little hands, I have some french in me from way back so I must be a throw back. Pity they didn't. A
