We had a really wonderful first Christmas in China. The good thing about being away from all the family for the holidays is that we got to really establish our own family traditions. Although we missed everyone back home having just the four of us was nice. Together on our spectacular journey through life, we have really come to relay and appreciate one another more than ever! So our first task was to make our family Christmas tree. Ramsay got us some paper to use for the tree and ornaments, and then came scissors and tape, and abracadabra, a tree! It is small and humble but it's ours!
Christmas Eve we decided to head out for dinner. We ended up choosing a place called Neolithic Grill. Each table has a built in grill and you cook all your own food right there. It's a very fun way to do dinner. The name was true to its era, as most of the menu was meat with only a few vegetables. We ordered a few plates of meat (two kinds of beef, pork, peppered duck, and Japanese crab stick), all of which were absolutely delicious! The veggies that they had (corn, onions, and lettuce) we got and made lettuce wraps with the meat and onions. All of this was finished off with big glasses of fresh tangerine tea and honey lemon tea. It was a really fun dining experience and a great way to spend Christmas Eve. After getting back from dinner and getting the kids into bed, we got several visitors who left gifts for us outside our door. One phone call claimed it was Santa and that they had stopped by outside the front door. (Neighbors)
Christmas Day, Sophia was up early trying to peek at the loot. After breakfast we all sat down and the kids opened all their goodies. Both were pleased with the results. They played the rest of the day with their new things and it was mostly a nice relaxing day (Ramsay got the day off too!). We ended up eating a late lunch (Japanese) at one of our favorite spots up the street and finishing off the night with a Japanese movie (Howl's Moving Castle) and then off to bed. Time well spent.
We hope all the family and friends back home and elsewhere had equally awesome holidays!
