This morning I wake really early again. About 6:30. Me and Hannah (Australian girl) go into town for breakfast. I decide to be really healthy and get a Fruit Salad for brekkie. Then get my Boost Juice too so I'm proper fruited right up this morning. Me and Tom leave the hostel to go to Byron Bay. It's quite a shabby hostel but good memories and fun people there. Hannah walks us to the bus station. I only knew her for 2 days but will stay in touch with her that's for sure. That's the thing about backpacking. You meet people for a few days then move on. Some people you really click with and stay in touch with. Tom I will certainly stay in touch with too. The bus ride from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay takes a little under 2 hours. I've already booked us into a hostel that is recommended to us by a couple of different backpackers. As soon as we rock up we can tell its a lush place. Tom is staying here for a week, I book me and Sammie in for 4 days although we may decide to stay longer. We will discuss it later when she arrives tonight. The 3 of us are in the same room, with 5 Swedish girls and 2 something European girls. Tom and a German girl who was on the Aquarius Hostel pickup bus decide to head straight out for the beach which is really really close. I however am the most sunburnt I have ever been in my life and make the sensible decision of staying at the hostel in the shade. It's a shame to be burnt as it restricts what I do. The hostel is really nice though. It's $30 a night which is a few dollars more than others but you get a free evening meal and drink with that. Meals normally cost about $10-$15 so it's actually a pretty good deal. There is a swimming pool here, a bar, a table tennis table, pool table, lounging area and all sorts. When Tom & Nele get back and the sun has distanced itself a wee bit further from my cooked body we go to a supermarket. Milk, cereal, 2 pasta & sauces, water and after sun gel. It's a very laid back place this. Everyone is shirtless and in sandals. So many people getting around on bicycles and skateboards. It's a very cool place. The weather today has been blistering hot again. Hardly a cloud in the sky all day. When we get back the new arrivals at the hostel get a free drink at the bar between 6-6:30pm. So me, Tom & Nele indulge in that before we get our free meal. We sit in deck chairs by the pool which is all in the shade now thankfully. A flock of about 30 parrots fly over and land in the trees around the pool and seating area. They are so noisy, but it's amazing to see such beautiful birds flying around so much. When we're waiting for the food we find one bench free so sit at that. It doesn't take long to realise why it's not being sat at. I got 3 parrot turds land on me in under 5 minutes and there's bits of foliage dropping in our drinks. The parrots are mental! We move indoors. A couple of the swedish girls join us at the table for the meal. I had a pasta carbonara. Was nice. A karaoke night starts after the food. If you sing you get a free drink. I'm not that thirsty. I go with the hostel pickup mini bus and meet Sammie off her bus. So weird meeting her in such a random and exotic place. I get the pleasure of sitting through the Aquarius staff dudes little tour of Byron bay he does again. It lasts about 5 minutes, is so direct and straight to the point and involves lots of swearing. It's hilarious. The best short tour ever. I catch up with Sammie in the room whilst the Swedish girls are drinking, getting ready to go out and playing a random selection tunes at full pelt. They finally leave at about 11pm. Thank god. The remaining 5 of us are knackered. I realise that I have left my towel and toothbrush at the last hostel. I got another 2 toothbrushes in my wash bag but I will need to buy myself another towel which is a pain in the sphincter.
