We finally arrived in Heidelberg which had been our home for 3 years! We exchanged our Skoda for an Opel and we were off to find our hotel. Since I knew exactly where our hotel was located, we found it without a problem. Jen decided to stay back at the hotel while Nacia and I went downtown to the Hauptstrasse so Nacia could find some last-minute souvenirs.
After our downtown outing, we picked up Jen and drove to the small town of Ladenburg for dinner. We ate at a restaurant called Die Kartoffel (The Potato) where you cook your meat on a hot piece of lava rock. Back when we lived in Heidelberg, this restaurant was always packed and you had to have a reservation. We walked in and the place was empty. The waitress took us to the garden where we joined one other table. Just the same, the meal was delicious. We walked around Ladenburg after dinner and stopped for a spaghetti eis - yum!!
On the drive back to our hotel, we saw some fireworks from one of the military installations since it was July 4th!
The next morning, Saturday, we drove Nacia up to Frankfurt to catch her flight back to the States. Jennifer and I then drove back to Heidelberg and went sightseeing and shopping downtown.
The next day was rainy so we decided to drive to Strasbourg, France for the day. We walked around Strasbourg in the rain, ate lunch and then drove back to Heidelberg. That night after dinner, we got together with old friends, Ashlee and Pensri Hamre for a long night of wine drinking at our hotel. At 2:30 am, we called it a night.
The next day, Jen and I leisurely strolled around Heidelberg and that night went to the Hamre's house for a delicious dinner of Pensri's famous Thai food.
Tuesday morning had arrived and it was time to say good-bye once more to Heidelberg. We were off to Frankfrut to catch our flight to Venice.
