Cairns was our last stop in Australia. We had an action packed couple of days as we had been told about lots of things to do and see in the area and we only had four days left to fit everything in.
We went on an organised tour to Cape Tribulation (tiny (each town within the rainforest). Our trip took us to different stops in the rainforest along the way - was funny to compare it to Ecuadors Amazon which had no guided paths or walkways and stated lookout points. We visited an animal resuce centre and got to hold a baby euro (from the marsupial family) which was just so cute! We went on a crocodile river cruse on the Daintree river and saw some wild crocs sunbathing on the banks - felt like little crocodile hunters. That evening we stayed in Port Douglas which is just north of Cairns. It is a very cute, very expensive beach town and is where many famous people go on holiday (well so we were told). I'm not too sure what we thought we where doing there!!!! Anyway had a nice day in Port Douglas window shopping and came back to cairns the following evening.
The next day we went off to a historical town in the rainforest called Kuranda. We travelled to the town on the worlds largest sky rail - 7.5km. We had some beautiful views over the tree canopy and stopped off on route to have short educational boardwalks around different areas of the forest. Spent the day in the town looking in the markets. We also visited a bat rescue centre where a lady takes injured bats into her home and looks after them until they are well enough to go back into the wild. We ended the day by taking a little river boat trip before travelling back to Cairns on the old railway line - was so scenic and we ended up having a really lovely day. What a nice end to such a wonderful time in Australia (and we had the sunshine at last).
