Today was pretty uneventful, which is ok, because yesterday wore me out! We had class from 8:45-12:00 and then we went to lunch again in the school cafeteria. Today they had chicken so I had that which was pretty good. We had a guest speaker in class who is actually from the US but met a woman when he was visiting many years ago and never left. He is now a professor at the school and is friends with our professors so he wanted to give us a little lesson on the Danish culture. Pretty much he compared our cultures to his by giving us a couple of cases and asking us what we would do in the situation. The first one was the following: Its a late Tuesday night and you have to go to work in the morning, the neighbor upstairs is blasting their music very loud, what would you do? In the US we would bang on the ceiling or go tell them to be quiet. In Denmark it is very rude to do that, you cannot go bother someone that is just rude, so you have to deal with it!! Second case-your friend was speeding and hit a pedestrian who walked out in front of her car. You saw what happened and know that the it was the guys fault for walking out into the street. The lawyer tells you if you don't mention the speeding your friend will not be charged. You are asked to give a statement in court, do you tell them your friend was speeding? In the US we feel like we are under oath and have to tell the truth, in Denmark, you wouldn't care and you would lie to help your friend out. This is just crazy to think that you can't go tell the person upstairs to be quiet!! Also he gave us a couple of other fun interesting facts. There are 5.5 million people living in Denmark and there are 25 million pigs here at all times!! I can tell this is true because at every meal we have at the hotel or school there is always various renditions of pork meat!! Also, a survey was taken of the Denmark population, and found that 90% of all Danish people think that George Bush is the most dangerous person in the world! Hmm?something to think about.Everyone here asks about Bush or if we voted for him, he is definitely not their favorite! Another think I thought was interesting was the minimum wage.Employees ages 18 and under the minimum wage is $11-12 US dollars per hour!! For those ages 18 + the minimum wage is $19-20 US dollars per hour..I am living in the wrong country!! Anyway, after class we met with our groups for our presentation tomorrow and that lasted until around 4:00.I cam e back to the hotel and sent some emails then went out to try to find a good meal.We went to a Jamaican Café' which I thought was going to be great, but my sandwich was loaded with unidentified objects and the chicken was pink. This was it so I broke down and went to McDonalds, which I was rather disappointed with.I got a kids chicken nuggets meal, and I thought all would be well.It was about $8.00 US, which it's like $3 at home and then I had to pay extra for ketchup which I got back to the hotel and didn't even have! There was no ice in my drink and the fries weren't the same and the chicken nuggets were a little dry.I give up, I am sticking with eating a big breakfast and I will save some fruit and rolls for dinner!! Anyway I am going to get ready for bed and study for a quiz I have tomorrow!
