So today is my first day in a foreign country?followed by my first airplane ride!Whitney and I left from Charlotte at 3:30 (we were supposed to leave at 2:09) and we arrived in Newark around 5:30ish.Our next flight was to leave at 5:50 and of course we were late.We almost missed the check in and then we almost missed our flight. We had to run through the terminal and through security to get to our gate. Our names were being announced over the intercom and I was running carrying my bags, laptop, and my shoes.Fortunately we made it and took off.Our flight was amazing, we had individual touch screen TVS in front of us and we could chose from several movies, games and music to entertain us throughout the flight. We could also view our surroundings in front and below the airplane due to cameras docked on the plane, which was pretty neat. We landed in Copenhagen around 7:30am and we went straight to get our luggage?which of course was not there!!! Because we had rushed to switch flights, our luggage didn't make it on our flight!! The worst thing that could happen happened, but we laughed it off.We decided to take the train to Central Copenhagen instead of a taxi and after much worry we made it.We arrived in the middle of what is like the "Time Square" of Copenhagen and to our right was a McDonalds, so we knew we would be ok. I was amazed at the number of bicycles that were everywhere!! Most of the people in Denmark ride their bikes, and they are hard core bike riders so we have to watch out. With my handy dandy map we began to look for our hotel without asking for help of course. We started out, in the rain and walked for a about 15 minutes before we decided to ask for help, and we found out that we were in fact going in the wrong direction. After asking many people, we found our hotel, the Ibsen's Hotel. Most of the people we asked for directions could not tell us where the hotel or even the street was. This sounds so strange because I could tell you in a heartbeat where hotels and streets are in Charlotte. Anyway, we made it but we ended up getting moved to a different hotel, Kong Arthur, which is pretty much connected to the other. I think this one if much nicer, but we could not check in until 2 so we went exploring the streets, which are crazy. There are bikes and people and cars everywhere and the streets are small, cobblestones and stores and restaurants in every nook and cranny. We ate at a little pizzeria for lunch and then we went back to the hotel to check on our luggage. We found out that it wouldn't be delivered until Tuesday at the earliest so we decided to go out and buy some clothes, which we all know I can do.Some of the other girls had found an H & M store earlier so we went there and we bought some clothes (497, 00kr) to supply us until we got our luggage. We also walked to the general store across the street and bought toothpaste and a toothbrush (71,00 kr).Around 1:30 we checked into our room, which is decent, overlooking a very cute courtyard. We ate dinner at a restaurant called Jensen's Bofhus, which is known for their ribs, but I got salmon, and it was really good. We then went to get ice cream before coming back to the room ( en Kugler or to Kugler-one scoop or 2 scoop-not sure about the spelling) So that brings me back to where I am right now, in the lobby playing on the internet before bed.We got shampoo/conditioner/clothes from some very nice girls and so we are pooped and ready to go to bed.It is about 10:00pm here, and it isn't even dark now, still light outside, which is going to drive me nuts, along with the fact that I do not have a noise maker! This was a great start to the trip and I can't wait to see what we do next, hopefully tomorrow will get our luggage and it will be a better day!!! Fun fact of the day: You can drink at 15 years old and it is very legal to drink alcohol in the streets in public?any time of the day!!!
