Friday 9 April
We arrived in Kochi after a long haul flight that seemed to take forever!!
We checked into the Tea Bungalow - a beautiful old residence that dates back 100 years. It has been refurbished and is delightful.
After a short recharge we decided to go shopping!!! We didn't get far .. in fact just across the road to a shop that sold many things that we found interesting!!!
Sabine, I found out very quickly was a far greater shopper than me ... hard to believe but true!!
Eventually we left this shop and wandered down the streets, pausing at shops until we found the famous Chinese Fishing nets!!
The nets are large and hoisted by about 10 men out of the water!!
We wandered back to the Tea Bungalow and met up with Ken and Eleanor my Scottish friends from Erika's and my cooking tour in India a couple of years ago!
Sat poolside drinking beers and catching up for the afternoon!
In the evening we wandered back down to the fishing nets and bought some prawns, snapper and calamai ... then took it to a nearby stall for them to cook!! Delicious - with spiced veg fried rice!
Had a real Scottish whisky on the balcony with Big Man and Eleanor then collapsed into bed!
Saturday 10 April
Breakfast by the pool .. ofcourse!!! Then we got a driver to take us into Cochin to Soma then to another fabric store where Indian women purchase their saris! What amazing colours!!! It was great!!
Back to Tea Bungalow and had lunch then across the road to arrange to get my dress and jacket made - probably paid too much ... but hopefully will turn out well!
We then caught two tutt tutts for one hour tour around Fort Cochin!!
That was fun ... we stopped at a ginger factory - it was like walking back in time seeing the old ladies working the ginger - the air was filled with ginger scent and the building is 400 years old - wonderful.
We stopped again to peer over a high wall where there were two elephants - one with huge tusks!!!
On to Fab India then back to Tea Bungalow for a swim and beer!
Jassa met us there - he looks great! We arranged to go to dinner on the waterfront - tiger prawn curry - Jassa's restaurant selection still amazes me!! It was soooo cheap but wonderful!! And they had gin and tonic!! $10 for curry, rice and 2 G&T!!
