Well Shirley seems to pick exotic places to celebrate her birthday in the pass 5 years, and this year is no different. Oggie (today)we're off to the Dodgies palace.there is only one thing that is wrong with what we are about to do and that is it is peeing down with rain. We take the waterbus from near the train station and Shirley has it all worked out as she always does, catch the No2 she crys out , so on we get ,it like riding on the fast train to Newcastle, limited stops. We are there in 15 minutes and when we arrive,at St Marks square we are shock to to see that Venice is being swallowed by the king tide . There are duckboards placed all around to raise the height of the footpath up at least 3 feet.
We find the palace and start our 2 hr tour of the justice system used by Italy when it had states and was known as the Republic of Venezia which was back in the15th century .
We completed our tour and by this time the tide had receded so walking around was easier so exploring this area was next on the list , of course that is after we have lunch and celebrate shirl's birthday with a prosecco. We chose a little place named Acughetta, again this had the seal of approval from travel adviser, and so far this trip they have been stop on. Still the rain is pouring, we sit , drink, eat and be merry, hope for the sun,as we all have a gondola ride booked for 4.30 and Shirley ,Di and I have decided ,no go if it is raining. Until that time we catch that decease that attracts the eyes and wallets to shopping , idol wallet only get moths, it really peeing down, let's find a bar and drown our sadness with what, no it is not prosecco, the girls have cocktails and the boys a beer. Eventually Only Karen and Balty go on the ride the rest of us catch a waterbus back to a closer stop then walk the streets of Venice for one last time.
Planning Shirley's birthday night was difficult as a lot of the better ristorantes are closed on Mondays, but the owner knew one , said it is a friend of his,he will look after you. This owner Paulo is a lovely person , finds nothing to difficult to do , thanks to him our stay has been memorable.
The ristorante was just what the doctor ordered, good old style Venetian food ,again the Prosecco was to the fore as was the pino gredgio, the food was great ,pasta the pick , a great time had by all.
Alas this the last blog from Venice as we move to Lake Como tomorrow, we have enjoy the time here but I think it is time to move on.
Thanks to all who sent message and to my daughter I say congratulations and well deserved on being named coach of the year .
Ciao for now and you we will hear from us in como.
