Our room is beautiful, looks right over the canal which is a working canal. Shirley and I wake about 7.00 a.m.,down for breaky , met the group, all decide to explore their own way . That done Shirley and I are off to the famous ponte di Rialto ( Rialto bridge). We meander through the lane ways of Venice stopping at a number of shops and stalls, just enjoying the surrounding, it so hard for us to accept that we are actually here. You will be please to know with the car gone the love affair is back on.The Rialto bridge is a large bridge the crosses the grand canal ,it is like Parramatta road, just to give you some idea. We arrived at the bridge and to our surprise ,this bridge was dirty , covered in graffiti and in poor repair, not at all what a tourist was looking for. It did come in handy as one of the stores had a gift I could buy for shirley's birthday, a lovely marano glass faced watch, we also found a festive venetian face mask, it is absolutely beautiful. We return to our hotel to drop off the goodies, this now starts stage 2 of the day.
We're going to explore the Jewish area known as the ghetto. In this area the streets and houses are much cleaner and in good repair compared to other parts of Venice, with much less graffiti. It is here we discovered a little gem of a ristorante the Osertia L'orto Dei Mori, the food was to die for, even if it was only sea food. The tradition of the prosecco continued at this adorable eating place.
Back to home base to relax an prepare for the stage3 of the day, all of us are going to the opera,in a palace, on the main canal . We are seeing the opera La Traviata, which is about a man who falls for a hooker (courtasen) but his father is unapproving of such a relationship, that give you the Getz of the story.
The performer were no further than ten ft from us and sometimes right in our lap, simple amazing, right from the start the scene was set when the lead female singer walks from the opposite end of the room and plants a big kiss on an inspecting man, this is to show her loose ways.I was quite proud of myself as I followed all of this opera reading the Italian, don't know exactly what they said, but was fun for me.
This has been a day to remember the will stay with Shirley and I for a long long time, we are missing you all and we love you.
To Micky,Silva,Frank,Michelle, Ruth and Anita, hope you are all well, love from all of us.
Bye for now
