Cinque Terre, what the heck is that. Well it is a group of small villages along the coast that have been around since the 12th century. Each village is by train no more than 5minutes away from the other.these villages have houses that rise from the rock face at the bottom of cliffs right up to the top using the cliff as part of the structure, they all have their own language and all produce some of the finest olive oil and white wine in the whole of Florence.
We started our journey at 8.30 a.m when we were taken by transport to the first of four villages Riomaggione, this took round about 2hrs. This was a nice place but very commercial, we had a coffee and then moved onto the next village Manorola by train, we were no longer on the train then we had arrived. 3 minutes crazy , similar type of building plan, typical style, each was painted in beautiful light colours of peach, yellow and red,all fitting together perfectly, Shirley and I found this village not as friendly as we had become accustomed to and were happy to move to next village, by boat, its' name being Venazzia ,here had lunch at beautiful little restorante with a view which was fabulous, high cliff face, terraced hill sides, clear acqua blue and dark blue sea with the odd white cap breaking, all this while we sipped on local vino (white) and were eat things like , pasta with pesto, spaghetti, freshly caught fish and scampi, while the world just pass us by. We spent an hour here before we had to move back to Cornilgia by train,, again similar to the others, bit higher off the water so the photos taken are really quite beautiful. We then were take by transport to the top of the cliffs which is over 200 meters above sea level. From here you can see to the end of the horizon and understand why early sailors believed if they sailed to far from land they would fall off the end of the world, the scene was breath taking.
That was the last thing to be did before we headed back to Florence for the last time as of tomorrow we will be heading to Tuscany. You should check out the album, look under photos.
