Hi to all,
First day of the walk began at 9.30am.breakfast supplied by hotel. The walk will take us along 7 kilometers of walking track, but our first stop is a Bennerdician monistary which dates back to 1011,that means it is 1001years old. The outside is made,I think from a sandstone type material, which was rebuilt around the 1600s. When we enter, the beauty is to hard for my limited vocab to describe. What I can tell you is this church has been built into a mountain cave, has been built over 4 times by 4different type religion, pagan,Norman, roman and Christian, all leaving their own mark in time for those who followed .
Off we go again about 1hr later , down into the valley ,across an old medieval bridge to trek through the woods passing tree lopers with their mules loaded on a track made for one, the mule almost knocked me over the cliff, nearly very short holiday,200feet drop.Once out of the woods the walk takes us to villages and to the coast, although not fast it is very hard as it continues to rise and fall quite steeply. Adventurely after some 4hrs we reached our distanation a local eating place in Vietri Sul Mare, where we all received a lite lunch.Roughly 1hr later it was off again to see the local industry which is ceramics. We visited 3shops where in 1 we were entertained by first an 80 year old man who was a master of pottery who demonstrated how to make small jugs and candle holders,he took about a minute for each,he looked to be only late 60s.We were the introduced to a man whose only job was to make ceramic donkey, of all different sizes but exactly the same features, he was old but perfectly precise. There were a few more ceramic stops before we headed back to the hotel for a well earned rest. Day 2 domani ( tomorrow) is the hardest of all the walks as it is a good 5 ks up before we get some relief of coming down which will have us smack bam in the middle of the Amalfi coast.
Shelly, oh I'm sorry Shirley, has a new tour name, will take the transport option so she can get some sun and of course some presecco with another woman whose name is Ruth from Canada.Shirley also went over on her ankle on the fifth last step of the morning session,no damage but was easier to make her decision.
I am not sure if the blog will appear tomorrow as my health may be affected by the walk or the celebration of finishing it.so until the blog flows again ciao.

Rod typical of Shirley to go over on her ankle. Hope she is OK and it doesn't spoil the trip. Rod
