Ciao, well as you can see the climbing man has made it back safely, but let me say this is the hardest walk I have ever done. 9 kilometers of down right pain and trouble. There was no training that could of prepared us for what we achieved to day. The climb up was steep, with places barely wide enough to place a foot on,loose dirt and rocks made for unsteady footing which in turn made for hard work, throw in the mules' poo and the wide thorn bushes, I think you can imagine what we were going through.
We started at 9.00 am and reached the top at 11.45am, 2.45 hrs of torture.I know what you are thinking "ok you are at top easy sailing now", don't be so silly, the down leg a drop of over 1500 meters virtually straight down. it is here that we discovered that we were Centuors because this is the only way we were ever going to get back to sea level. Our party is made up of some true hiker but mainly just walkers , we have never seen anything like this . Fortunately there were no serious injuries though di has some pretty big bruises from loosing her balance in the loose rock and falling on a large rock, right on the left cheek of her bum, painful, but she just got up,Shead a tear took a breath and soldier on.
We finally made our way to the bottom at about 2.30pm looking like a very tired bunch of mountaineers and our leg were so happy they just when on strike because down hill is so much harder on the knees, ankles, toes, shines and calves, so the first bar became our home until it was time for transport pick up.
Was it tough ,yes! was it fun, no! was it challenging, yes! would I do it again, maybe but not for a long long time.
There are some photos in the Amalfie coast album check them out if you wish.
Bye for now( Ciao)
