Pushkar to Jodphur
A 3 hour drive on a really bumpy road to Jodphur, the mosoon had ruined theroad so was really slow progress. Saw loads of the country on the drive though, and saw a 2 people and 2 goats on one motorbike an the driver was on the phone which was impressive and ironic, rural meets modern! We visited the fort (yet another one) but it was the best one yet, us westerners hadour own lounge and balcony so we didnt have to mix with the peasants lol. Our hotel here is amazing heritage hotel with sky TV, watched ugly betty, amazing!

Jodphur to the Thar Desert
Another 7 hr epic car journey. There are thousands of people walking along the road making a pilgrimage to a temple, Deepak says they are walking 400km, one guy instead of walking was rolling along the floor, he must have wanted something really bad from god!I hope he gets it he has earnt it. WQe arrive a the desert to a collection of mud huts where we were gonna spend the night. lots ofother weaterners arrived, then the monsoon started again and everything got flooded, so to deal with the mud hut, the bugs the power cut etc, we got drunk. We met an OT and a nurse from Tavistock which was a laugh, they also went to UWE. Deepak was also drunk on whisky and had us all up dancing with the local villagers in the rain, I think he was proud of us. Best night yet considering!
12/09/10 - 13/09/10 Thar desert to Jaisalmer
Up at 5am for a camel safari to watch the sunset, its cloudy so again there is no sunset, we will never learn! Back on the road now to Jaisalmer, Our hotel here is really nice as well, had a much need shower as stank of camel, ended up in the swimming pool whcih was nice. Decided to ventre out for dinner, big mistake, Indians don't undertand service, 1hr 45min and still no food, and then they brought the wrong food, i give up.
Deepakless today so we wondered into the fort which is still inhabited and has loads of shops inside the fort walls. Ended up getting a henna tatoo of a woman in her hopuse and we sat and watched an indian soap for 2 hours which was fun. I have started paying the musicians in our hotel to shut up as the are so terrible and keep hasseling us, it was worth every rupee.
14/09/10 Jodphur - THE DAY OF UNFORTUNATE BUT FUNNY EVENTS
7hrs in the car back to Jodphur, when we got there it was completely flooded and was still raining. The traffic was horrenous and a tuk tuk rammed straight into the back of us and then drove off, so we set off in hot pursuit of the driver who drove past us laughing. We chased him for about 15 mins but he weaved in andout of the traffic and they all look the same so he managed to get away. To add insult to injury and motorbike drove by the car and a big wave enterd deepaks window and soakesd him, we laughed alot, he was not impressed. We decided to venture out in the rain as we only had one evening in Jodphur, the street was like a river and I fel into a whole and it came up to my knee, god knows what was in it, apparently deepak says the sewage flood the city, nice! Savlon tonight i think! Was fun though.
15/09/10 Ranakpur by name Rank by nature
5 hr drive along death road to Ranakpur, felt like we were in a game of mario kart and I reguarly saw my life flash before my eyes. We arrived at the best hotel and upgraded us to a suite with a multi jet shower, and then there was a knock at the door....wrong hotel, yours is down the road. And it was a dump, nice one Deepak! was supposed to be 2 nghts here but we told him were leaving the next day. The ceiling plaster was all falling down, they were still fixing the roof, was traumatic. Probably would ha seemed alot better if the luxury suite hadn't been shown to us. We visited the beautiful jain temple here, but was so pissed off didn't reall appreciate it.
16/09/10 - 19/09/10 Udiapur
Promptly left our dump for Indias most romantic city. Bumped into the English girls from the desert which was nice and met them for dinner. Had a round of special lassis' which was fun with chill out indian music in the background. Udiapur is built on a lake and is really pretty, out hotel has beautiful views and is quite posh, we even have duvets! Been hanging out in teh cafes here, doing some shopping, visited the palace, saw a festival and parade (everyday there is some knid of festival), ate cake (i'm losing no weight)! Said goodbye to Deepak, all very civilised, no tears, still annoyed after the wrong hotel incident. Watched Octop**** it was filmed here and is there claim to fame, every restaurant shows it every night!

Work Dad Have you ever seen 'Romancing the Stone'? I think you're in it!! It sounds like you're having a lot of fun anyway ...and surviving. Looks like the couple from Tavistock brought the weather with them! I can't believe you went all that way to watch Ugly Betty, wasn't there any cricket on? You should get Deeps to take you to a game. Even if you don't like cricket the crowd would be entertaining...proper Indian culture. Anyway, have you learned to wobble your head yet..I bet Deeps does it all the time. Work just keeps getting better and better...and you're missing it! Keep safe. WD.
