Hong Kong
Up at 6:30 to get the plane to Hong Kong, all pretty tired after last night. Arrived in Hong Kong, I had no expectations of this and no idea what to expect. This place is amazing, so busy and exciting, like New York but without the attitiude and rudeness.
We finally found the hostel, it was on a busy shopping street and you couldnt't even tell it was a hostel from the outside, just looked like a door to some offices. Our room is like a small cupboard for 4 people but HK is so expensive we had to take what we could get. We all went out to meet our friend Kalee who Ami and I went to uni with, she just happened to be out here for a wedding. She took us to Lang Kwai Fong which is the main drinking street. There was a Russian ice bar which was freezing and we had to wear Cruella Deville fur coats, fely like home. The vodka was the beginning of the downfall, went to another bar and stayed there till 6am doing vodka jelly shots. Met so many fun people, alot of them westerners who work in HK, I can definately see the appeal. Guess what ended up in McDonalds...again, 3 time in about 5 days. Been up for 24hrs very tired.

Didint get upt ill 1am, thats the problem with sleeping in a cupbaord with no windows. Ventured out towards Kowloon island on the star ferry, the city looked awesome from the harbour. Visited temple gate market, bought a watch for a pound, you definately get what you pay for as its now about 5 hours out on the actual time. Saw the symphony of lights show where they light all the skyscrapers up to music, was pretty specatular. On the way abck on the next street over from our hotel there was a shooting, apparently it was 2 gangsters, shootings seem to follow Ami and I, it was New York all over again.

Up early, Nic and i went to Ocean park which is a big theme bark just outside the city. Was a mixture of sea worls, alton towers and a zoo, didn't really know what it was doing. Saw pandas though which was cool. No killer whales though as described in the lonely planet, how can they get that so wrong, they are pretty big! Ended up in McDonalds... again, didn't have much choice to be honest. When we got back i saw a massive c*** roach crawl under my pillow, its the biggest one I have ever seen, as a coping mechanism I have named him Bernie to make it more bearable. Found somewhere to eat this evening thats in a fim called 'in the mood for love' apparently its off of the 60's, i'll have to watch it when I get home. we ghave yet another room mate tonight, the 3rd in as many days, suprisingly i'm getting used to sharing a room with randoms, i know how dodgy that sounds.

No sign of bernie in the night thank god, slept suprisingly well considering he could have crawled in my mouth! Met our 4th room mate, called ben from essex, really nice guy. didn't meet him til this moring all though he came in at 1:30am, it's weird knowing there is this guy sleeping less than 2m from you who you don't even know what he looks like, but he didn't murder us all so thats a good start. It's raining today which is rubbish. Decided to head for the peak anayway to see the views from the highest point in HK. Had to put trainers on whoch felt very odd. Got the tram to the top, they view in the day was pretty poor due to the smog and weather, but at night it was awesome. When we got in we were sat on the bed chatting, then Ami started screaming, so Nic and I started screaming, bernie was on the bed and went unde the sheet, we couldn't find him anywhere, then about 20 mins later he reappeared and I killed him good and proper, my first big kill of the travels and I doubt it will be my last, RIP Bernie.

Went to Happy Valley race course tonight, was so much fun, they had their own Oktoberfest and there was pleanty of beer, started off on a winning streak, went downhill very fast, lost all of 10 pounds, stilol loads of fun, the highlight of HK for me.

Aunty Vivvy Heard Honk Kong was spectacular. Sarah spent 12 months there working for the builder of the new air port. God bless Bernie, gone to cockroach heaven. Another Big Mac. You will be ny size when you get home! Keep safe
Work Dad Hi Jess. I just booked a hotel in HK this afternoon! Last time we stayed at the Marco Polo with a view over the harbour and you're right ... it's spectacular, and the McD's is a lifesaver! Enjoyed the pictures on Facebook. The pictures of the jelly shots reminded me that Work Mum finally got rid of Bob on Friday!! She can tell you all about that. I hope the word doesn't get around amongst Bernie's friends that you did him in! Keep safe. WD.
