We finished our last breakfast in Venice and checked out of our hotel. 1st stop, laundromat as we were down to our last pair of socks and undies. We have only washed twice but we are gettin pretty good at figuring out the washing system in a different language. 30mins in the machine then 30 in the dryer, yep seems excessive for a dryer but it didn't even dry our clothes! In for another 30 and this time much better. Packing our clothes back into the space bags and tragedy! A sock is missing...Chris said it was probably stuck inside some other clothes, since we couldn't find it in either the washer or dryer. I think it's gone into the abyss. That secret place where all lost socks go. Poor sock...
Leaving without the sock, we headed back across the river to the Santa Lucia train station to get our tickets to Rome.
First we had to validate our rail pass then buy a reservation on the train. They don't give you much information about which platform and everything on our ticket was in Italian so we found, what we thought was, our seats.
The second stop we soon found out that they weren't, when a very rude Italian told us we were in his seat. Little did we know we were 4 carriages from our real seats! Finally we found them and yay! We're in first class, more leg room and fancier.
3 and a half hours to Rome travelling at an average speed of 150km/h.
Checked in to our hotel which is right outside the pantheon, very nice indeed! Tested out some roman lasagna for dinner of which there were definitely no complaints, and then off to the supermarket for some more bottled water and snacks for the next few days and were served by an Italian look-alike of a friend of ours.
Tomorrow we are off for a tour to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.
Ciao.
