Today was a massive travel day. We ate breakfast and checked out of lucky star early in time for the 9.20 train to Kandy. Claire and I visited the medical centre (next to train station) and picked up some so called pills to make us feel better. Literally we spent almost the rest of the day sitting on the train. We trained through some of the most incredible and scenic views I have ever seen. At around 4 pm we arrived in Kandy. We caught a Tuktuk to our accommodation at clock inn. We checked in climbing to level 4 (the roof) where we found our accommodation (capsules) as a concrete tube/ barrel. We were so shocked. Especially as it was on the roof like it wasn't even inside the building. We decided we would try for the night and if it was terrible ask to swap rooms. The capsule had a light, power point, bed, fan and a small space to put bags. We quickly settled in and got changed (more appropriately for temples) as we took a Tuktuk to top of hill to visit big Buddha. What a view of Kandy! We explored around and climbed to Buddha's shoulders (up stairs). It was so quiet we were the only ones. We then Tuktuk down to the tooth temple. This however was so incredibly busy with tourists and locals everywhere. It has turned dark so the lights of temple were very pretty. We paid $1,000 Rs to get in ($10). We walked through the temple with a cultural performance occurring, we saw heaps of people praying and making religious offerings. We moved through relatively quickly as we were unsure about religion and didn't want to offend anyone. We then walked to dinner in the main street finding somewhere very cheap. Claire and I were still ill so we're very happy with some plain food. I had some fried rice. We walked back to the clock inn ready for our first sleep and possibly last sleep in our capsule.
