This blog post is going to seem very unfocused because it is basically a recap of the past few months. Much has happened in this time and it's difficult to adequately summarize!
I have a new job now in Moscow and it's going well. I'm working at the university where David works. I have a variety of jobs there, all pieced together to form a dynamic work experience in an exciting and scholarly atmosphere.
In order to legally change my job here in Moscow, I needed to make a trip to the U.S. This was no small feat! I chose New York City as my destination because it has a Russian consulate and also the Moscow-NYC flight seemed the cheapest and least painful to complete with a one-week turnaround time. I had mixed feelings about the trip to NYC, but overall it was a very positive experience. The best part was that two of my friends from college who I had somewhat lost touch with were there and I got to catch up with them. That was great! I also saw a Broadway play for the first time and it was awesome. I think a whole blog post could be written about Broadway plays, so I'll refrain from a detailed account of the ticket experience, music, acting, seats, theatre, etc.
Another really awesome part of my NYC trip was that I was there on Thanksgiving. At first thought, this might seem sad because I was there on a family-oriented holiday without my family. However, I had the opportunity to check out the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And my old college roommate, Katrina, was kind enough to invite me along for her Thanksgiving meal plans with some NYC friends. There was almost a disaster with a leaky roof, but in the end everything worked out and it was a classic Thanksgiving with food, conversation, and football on TV.
When I was in New York, I was able to jog outside around Central Park. Imagine the shock I experienced when returning to Moscow to a winter wonderland! Thankfully, David and I have finally purchased gym memberships. It would be pretty much impossible to run outside at this point with mounds of snow and packed-down ice. David is actually counting his slips and falls over the course of the winter. I've had many slips so far, but I'm definitely not counting! Today I bought new boots that were supposed to be purchased with traction control in mind. They do have some traction control properties, but their coolest feature is that they are Reeboks Easy Tone! As the saleswoman said in broken English, "They have gym ball inside." I think this means there are some kind of balls in the bottom that make the boots help with fitness as you walk. These boots are also very warm and waterproof, so they should be good for Russian winter.
Well, I actually had two other topics on my list for this blog entry, but alas it is getting quite long. I don't want to bore any readers who have made it this far, and also I'll need material for my next post, which will hopefully be less than two months from now.
