I know I only did a blog a couple of days ago, but I'm moving rouns the country a bit and want the map on my blog site to reflect my location for future reference!! Plus I've had a couple of fantastic experiences (and one not so fantastic!) since my last blog that I had to write about!!
Firstly in Kaikoura I went swimming with Dolphins which I think I mentioned in my last blog. It was absolutely amazing and one of the best things I have ever done!! We were kitted up in teh thickest wetsuits known to man, plus a rather attractive hood, fins and a snorkel before heading out on the boat into the bay. Once the dolphins were spotted we were told to get ready and then we entered the water. Almost immediately there was a dolphin heading straight for me which scared the life out of me!! In total there were probably a couple of hundred dolphins and about 14 of us and they came so close. They would circle you, swim past at about 10cm distance and swim up from under you and it was so awesome to see. We got into the water about 4 times in different areas and each one was better than the last. There was one dolphin that just kept circling me and I was trying to keep up but needless to say I was no match!! It was truly an awe-inspiring experience and I feel priveliged to have swum with these wild dolphins in their natural environment. I've added some more photos here - http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=97316&l=e98eb&id=639730629.
I've now moved on to Nelson at the North of the South Island (if you catch my drift!) but on the journey I managed to trip over a kerb whilst the coach had stopped for a break and I know have lovely scabs on my hands and one of my ankles and a bruised knee and elbow!! What a dumbass!! It would be great to say that I got my war wounds from rocklclimbing or some other exciting actibity, but no, it was a kerb in a car park!!
Anway, that aside, I have just got back from kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park which was amazing! We kayaked from a small town to the beach at Anchorage and we passed some beautiful beaches and the mountains were so lush - another example of fantastic NZ scenery!! We kayaked for about 4 hours and had lunch on this golden beach and then I got a water taxi back. All in all another fantastic day!!
