Hey everyone!
I've now been in Melbourne since Monday and fitted a lot in in that time! It was really sad to say goodbye to Lindsay but we've had such a fantastic time and whilst I know I might not see her until November at the earliest its good to get on with my travelling again!
Melbourne has been good fun although its been wierd being on my own again after everything that has happened over the last month - hope you liked my pictures in my last blog!! I;ve done quite a bit of sightseeing around the City, and it has a very pretty city scape so got quite a few pictures of that. I did a walking tour from the Lonely Planet which was good but took me down some very dodgy alleyways!! Melbourne is full of little roads and arcades so its quite easy to get lost. I also took a boat ride on the river past the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rod Laver Stadium (setting up for the Australian Open later this month) and Olympic Park. I've also been very good and done a couple or runs along the Yarra River and through the Botanical Gardens - New years resolution is to be healthier, get fit for coming back to the UK and drink less. I kind of failed on the last one within the first few days of the New Year as it was Lindsays birthday so we went out in Manly and had more than a few beverages and rocked in at 2.30am!! Its got to be done. I can't let my sister down on her birthday!! Its a good excuse anyway!!
I've also done a couple of tours since being in Melbourne. Ths first one was the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island which is East of Melbourne. I was picked up and taken to a couple of places - a winery, followed by a wildlife park where I got to feed some kangaroos, and then a lookout. The main point of the tour was to see the Penguin Parade though which takes place at dusk every night on one of the beaches. Several hundred people pay to attend and at dusk the penguins start coming out of the water in groups of about 10-20. In total there are over 1000 penguins that waddle out of the sea and its very cute!! Its like a comedy clown sketch though with them heading out and then getting knocked over by the waves, then getting scared and waddling back into the sea and then falling over each other in their eagerness to get to the cover of the dunes!! Once they are out they then make their way past the viewing areas and to their nests and you can watch them and walk beside them as they go. All very cute!!
The 2nd tour was the Great Ocean Road which is spectacular. We stopped at Bell's Beach which is a famous surf beach and the location for one of the scenes in Point Break. We then went on to the 12 apostles which are limestone outcrops from the sea as well as a couple of other stops. It was all really good, but you probably have to see the photos to appreciate it fully!! I will put them up when I get a chance!
You will also all be really pleased to know that Mlebourne is quite chilly so I have not been able to top up the tan so far, and I have been wearing a jumper for most of the past 5 days!! I only have 1 jumper with me so its proving to be slightly difficult!!
I move on to New Zealand tomorrow which I'm really looking forward to and that should make for some more good photos! Mum and Dad are there at the moment and I meet up with them for a week and we do some of the Southern Island in a camper van - should be interesting!!
Hope all is good at home and you all aren't too cold. I hear the weather is pretty baltic at the moment!! Keep updating me with all of your news! xxxxxx
