The blogging begins! We have just spent a fun 3 days in Bangkok. After arriving at the hostel we filled our days with tourist sightseeing and came home each evening sweaty and aching...being enthusiastic tourists we wanted to walk everywhere but soon converted to taxi and boat services. The first day after 2 hours on the streets we came to the Grand Palace which was beautiful and so gold. We are going to have to beware of scams-everyone tells you things are closed or in complete different different directions! It's an interesting place, smelly and muggy but on the other hand fun and full of hidden treasures (or not so hidden, see later). I loved the cheap travel,a boat down the river costs about 10p and a tuk tuk- a 3 wheeler motorbike style thing that you never ever feel safe in! You could say that the people are friendly and helpful but when, one afternoon, we ended up in Chinatown searching for slr's everybody we asked answered turn right-cue mental image 2 girls walking round in squares not seeing a single camera, on the plus side the range of fakes is amazing and I'll be sure to stock up before heading home. We decided that by the end of our stay we had to have made some friends and our hostel wasn't that sociable so we thought why not shout in the lobby "does anyone fancy a ping pong show?", we gained 2 friends and a few mental images I'm still trying to shake off! Nothing was hidden and we saw everything from ping pong balls to trumpets to cigarettes! We are now sitting on a sleeper train heading north to Chiangmai in search of elephants and a good cheap massage- only 15 hours to go!
