After waking up in the night with terrific thunder and rain, we all met for an excellent breakfast and briefing for the day.
Our first activity was a boat trip to Impalila Island in Namibia. We made our way to the hotel jetty and sat for a while on the large boat which is probably the evening cruise boat. Eventually, after a tiny biyt of huffing from one member of the party, our little(!) Boay arrived to transport us to another country.
Another country of course meant more border crossings and we all know the dangers these can pose... First, a quick visit to sign out of Botswana before made our way half-way across the river to the Island and the very efficient Namibian border post. More forms but very little huffing!
The rain had stopped, but its after-effect was extreme muddiness on the island. Our wonderful guide, Felix, patiently walked us up to the village and answsered ALL our questions with great geduld. It was a fascinating place, from the grass rooves and beaten earth floors to the brick walls and satellite dish. Diane and James snapped up a couple of locally made bowls and Liz found herself a very nice necklace.
Our feet and legs were completely covered in mud and there were a few moments when falling seemed likely but luckily everyone,s backsides remained dry (if rather hot and sweaty).
Back we came via the two border posts and we stopped for a quick photo opportunity at the second (Botswana) where Edward had discovered a very educaational anti-HIV poster.
At the hotel we decided to take advantage of the pool and whiled away the afternoon swimming and getting sunburn.
Our day finished with sundowners at the terrace bar and a great dinner a la carte in the restaurant with delicious wine (a great deal of it). 5:45 start in the morning... Oh, my head!
