Up early and had a full English breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Yum! We headed off to Trafalgar Square to meet Mum & Dad for Canada Day in London. Found them on the steps to the National Gallery as the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir were starting to line up on the steps for there rendition of O Canada to open the days festivities. Dad and his fellow choirs stood out in their red jackets and were broadcast on the jumbo video screen at the other end of the Square. We watched the puck drop on the ball hockey game.
Next we jumped on a double decker bus along The Strand and ended up at Covent Garden. Esme was fascinated with a busker on a unicycle juggling 3 machetes. We walked through the covered pavilion, listened to a woman singing opera and had a sit down at a café. The kids were really taken with the Moomin store. We purchased a couple of plates.
We walked along Maiden Lane to The Maple Leaf and looked for a table for lunch. Out of luck (due to the great number of Canadians celebrating the day) we headed back towards to Trafalgar Sq. and had a nice lunch with Mum & Dad at The Marquis. We left M&D at T Sq. and walked over to Leicester Sq. (with a stop at M&M World, leaving £20 lighter with 1.5kg of M&Ms - who knew they were so popular), along to Piccadilly Circus, up Regent St. to Oxford Circus. Spencer wanted to pickup an Olympic pin at the official Olympic store in John Lewis.
We hopped on the Picadilly Line and headed back to Trafalgar Sq. to meet up again with Mum & Dad. The crowd was big. Lululemon yoga was taking place. We decided to head back to the hotel after saying goodbye to my parents.
We had a good meal at Addie's Thai on Earl Court Rd. Very tasty. Esme and John headed back to the hotel while Spencer and I headed back to Trafalgar Sq. to watch Hedley perform. The crowd had changed somewhat. Younger, lots of beer goggles worn, greater security presence. I've never seen such consumption of Molson Canadian at such an expensive cost -£4.30/can!!!
Hedley got the crowd going and sang about 7 songs. He ended by jumping into the crowd, climbing up one of the fountain statues while singing and then jumping off into 50cm of water (ouch!) at the end of the song. He did walk out with as smile on his face. Who knows...
We didn't stay for Our Lady Peace as it had been a long (and good) day. We took the Tube back to the hotel.
