What a great day waking up at Cable Beach Sanctuary Resort. Such a relaxing place to have a holiday. The complex is set on large acreage with all units facing the beautiful pool. The night lights around the pool of a night make it look so enviting. It is a shame we had to check out today.
We woke early feeling very hungry. We are still running on Queensland time with 2 hours in hand. A local holiday maker advised us the Zoo Cafe was the best place to have breakfast. After a short walk to the cafe near Cable beach we were seated having the "Zoo works", fresh juice and coffees. What a great way to start the day.
By 9.30am it was starting to warm up. We packed our things together and vacated the unit to spend some more time around the pool. We stayed another hour just enjoying the cool water while floating around on some pool noodles. We had to bus it over to Roebuck Bay Caravan park.
Just as we saw in the plane the township of Broome is very spread out. Cable beach is on the west side of the peninsula and Roebuck Bay on the south east. The caravan park is located right on the beachfront of the Town Beach. It is quite old. Camping arrangements vary. A good cyclone and I think there would be very few onsite accomodations left. Our onsite van has a leanto and is located right on the beachfront with a million dollar view. There are large trees which provide cool shade to the van all day long. Right in front of our caravan there is a table with 4 chairs. How cool do we feel sitting having cups of tea overlooking a million dollar view.
For anyone interested in staying in Broome, if you can book one of the onsite vans like we have done at Roebuck Bay caravan park, it certainly is a very cost effective way to save. The van we are in is number 41. I remember reading a travel blog and another camper suggested this was a good site to rent. They certainly were right. Sites number 40a and 40b are excellent as well. The caravan is a little old but there is plenty of room with the annexe. The van has an airconditioner which keeps the place cool. The shade from the overhead trees also keep the heat out of the van. Toilet and shower block is very close. There is a bus stop right out the front which makes getting around Broome easy if you don't have a car.
Tonight we caught the bus to Matsos Brewery. The pub is housed in one of the old general purpose stores of old Broome. It is a boutique pub overlooking Roebuck bay. Onsite they brew a variety of their own beers which makes the place really unique. On Sunday afternoon they feature live bands and have specials on curry meals. We sat and enjoyed the music while feasting on great food washed down with Mango, Ginger and Old Pearler Bears. What a great fantastic way to finish a beautiful hot Broome day.
