hi we are at Khovd 5 days into our crossing of Mongolia tomorrow should see us through the border into Russia again,it all depends on how long the border crossing will take, there is lots of paperwork and official stamps and stuff.
Well Mongolia has lived up to everything i expected some incredibly hard days ,day 3 from Bayankhonger to Altay was the hardest days riding i have ever done 230km in 9 hours of riding was hot sandy [crashed a few times]tracks going everywhere 1st and 2nd gear a lot of the time . I was absolutely shattered by the time we got to Altay found the only hotel in town no showers crappy food [there is no fresh stuff at all out here just fatty sheeps meat and rice and chocolate biscuits its a wonder they dont all get scurvy].Today was ok the roads got a little better and we stopped just after lunch to clean up a bit hadnt showered for 4 days so a bit of r and r this arvo and we found a eating place with an english menu instead of pointing and hoping for the best
Overall MOngolia once you leave U.B. is incredibly backward [but mobiles work everywhere] its dry dusty no trees as we ride into a village the locals all come out to look at us touch our bikes etc they really give you no personal space at all, they are like that in their landcruisers too give you no room on the road at all.
But the people live simply but are clean and happy they have few possesions but they dont need a lot we australians have too much stuff after being here
looking fwd to getting back to normal roads got 400 ks of dirt to go will make a total of about 1600ks of dirt through Mongolia there arent roads they are just 2 wheel tracks through the rocks sand desert that have existed over the years when they get too rough someone just makes some more tracks its confusing at times

I know my kids are watching this blog intently to make sure the old mans ok i,m having the adventure of a lifetime not many people can say they have riddeen across Mongolia ooaahhh
