hi all still in Ulan Battaar been here sice sun nite needed some time to oil change the bikes and a bit of r and r for us was nice.U B is a nice place very dirty and there are street kids everywhere looking for money but it has a nice feel to it .we are now back at the Guide Hotel hence the internet we had some time at the Oasis guesthouse which is a biker hang out met some german guys there and 3 aussies mark, jason and hugo who had caught the train from beijng and had hired bikes to ride here for 2 weeks ,the biggest bike was a 175 they dont have much here
went to Tirilj national park yest with chris, ann, alister, bron the aussies who are driving toyatos through Mongolia we stayed at a ger camp which was awesome like the 1 in the picture its a 1600m and got pretty cold at night [the others had their fires on in their gers] it was a nice spot surrounded by huge rock formations which i climbed all over.Their freinds sarah and mark who came too live in U B and go there a lot we had a real ozzie night but drank French wine
From here we go west on the south rd about 1800km f very ordinary roads apparently this is the best way to go can be a bit dry and dusty as it runs on the edge of the Gobi desert,,,,,,,,the other way the north rd is greener but if it rains you can be trapped by flooded rivers for days or weeks so discresne is the better part of valour in my opinion .Soo fols you may not hear from us for about a week as it will take that long to get through we have been told.
Went to the Gengis Khan statue about 60ks from U B its enormous made of stainless steel it looks over the plains and stands 200ft tall its amazing the Mongolians can build this but they have kids sleeping in the streets
Some of you have asked me to tell you about our bikes mikes is a bmw 800gs much faster and better suspension than mine he has had to replace his rear pads and disc with parts from oz its only done 16000ks its also got a water hose problem that bmw will hear about at the end of the trip.Mine is a plugger a kawasaki klr650 makes more noise than actual speed but its plugged along and given me no trouble at all apart from the fairing tied up with cable ties and the chinese headlights dont work this is all stuff i repaired at home before i came so icant complain
I dont intend to bring the kawasaki home hopefully i can sell it and not pay v.a.t. or import duty somewhere maybe finland or london see what happens will cost 2000 aust to ship it home i only paid 3000 for it
so everybody next time you hear from me will be back in russia with bitumen rds all the way yo Moscow love to all esp lizzie xxoo
