Hey guys,
Have been in Vietenne last couple of days taking in the sights and sounds of laos capital city. Laos is considerably less built up than Thailand and to be honest going from Bangkok to Vietenne was abit of a cultureshock, its alot dustier in laos and the air is thicker whcih has led to a couple of problems which i'll come back to shortly.
We went to visit the pha that luang, whcih is the most important national monument in Laos as a symbol of buddism and lao sovereignity (copied that straight out of the lonely planet, not that you'd guess!) Was quite impressive but not alot to do there, in fact notmany of the sights are more than a half hour stay, the exception to this being the Lao national history museum. We also saw the victory monument, where we managed to pickupbeer lao t-shirts, and laterchecked out buddha park (photos to follow when i get a chance). Unfortunately, the humidity up here hasmade it quite difficult to breathe and this has proved to be a problem for nick, who having seemingly been alright again in bangkok probably got here to soon. But to be fair even i've struggled out here and ive had no problems (touch wood) so nicks back in bangkok and im on my own for the forseeable future with nick hopefully rejoining me in cambodia or somewhere.
Arrived in Vang vieng yesterday and made the mistake of hiring a bike to getaround on (those whove ever seen me on a bike will find this funny enough) and see the caves. Unfortunately the bike trails required a little thing called a suspension onyour bike, something mine didnt have, or ,as i later found out when hurtling downhill towards a car, brakes. My hands are short to pieces from trying to hold the handlebars butsomeof the cavesare quite cool here. Will finish up in Vang Vieng today then off to luang praung tomorrow. Until then....
