Mom wanted to see the Capuchin Crypt beneath Santa Maria della Concezione dei Capuchian, this is a weird place to say the least. Some monk was given permission to create art using the bones of dead monks, this place was strangely creepy and really amazing. This place is about 4 miles from the apartment, we thought, no problem. So off we go. We're walking a bit (and a bit more) and I decide it's time to check the map, we're off course but not so much that we need to go back, we just keep heading straight, we'll catch another turn ahead. We come to this huge wall, huge! I take some pictures and we can tell, this is part of some really old place, maybe some ruins? We walk past the building, bam, we're in Piazza della Rotonda, an Egyptian obelisk in the middle, and next to us, the Pantheon, wow. We go inside this centuries old building, active church, and we're blown away. Largest unsupported dome in the world. The only source of light is an opening in the center of the dome. Open! No window covering, nothing. There are special drains in the floor for when it rains, and it had the day before. We walked around the Pantheon, simply amazing structure full of works of art, statues, awesome. Well that was a surprise. We keep on crusin' down some pretty busy streets, I bet these can give any city in the world competition on crazy driving, busy with people, packed. Walked some of the streets, then finally made it to the Crypt, what a hike. Could not take any pictures in there, I was taking some and was told we were not allowed, probably said that on the door, oops. Back we go…Going back was tricky, followed a sign and saw Trevi Fountain. This was really cool, very ornate, lots of people! Visited a church in near the fountain that was really over the top. Maybe we're getting religious, we said, "oh my God" and "Holy s***" a lot! Walking toward the apartment, we walked by the Theatre of Marcellus and some ruins, the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, and Circus Maximus before going back over the River Tiber. Finally made it back to our hood about 9:30 and luckily found a restaurant open (trying to not go to any one place twice for eats), they seemed a bit snooty that we were not ordering Antipasto (appetizers) or a first plate, only ordered from the second plate, Rigatoni and Fettuccini with shrimp and fungi (mushrooms) . Only drinking water, no wine. We did have dessert though, Chocolate soufflé and Ricotta cheese cake, all the food was incredible. So we might have been light on the ordering, we left filled. We must have walked 8 miles, tad too much but being lost in Rome was a blast.
