Small cars and scooters everywhere! They love the Smart car, as well as many other tiny cars. Cars from Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan that I've never heard of. Many small ones from Fiat and Opel. Scooters everywhere and motorcyles, but many less than scooters. Rarely do we see a full sized car, almost no SUVs or trucks other than those used as a utility/service vehicle. Even the vans and buses are compact. Cars and scooters zipping in and out of traffic. The right away is to who gets there first. Pedestrians beware, you might have the right of way if you get there first, but just because you put a foot into a crosswalk doesn't mean they are stopping, and if a car does stop for you, better watch out for the scooter zooming around the car and going past. And parking, they park just wherever, no lines, seemingly no rules. Smart cars don't event bother parrallel parking, they go in front/back end first to the curb, and barely stick out more than the others. Double parking is abound and the cars don't even leave a foot front or back, of they do, a scooter will park there. Not sure how they get out but there are a lot of dings and scuffs!
Our observation, unlike the US, in Rome at least, cars are a tool only. They want the most for the least, the best mileage, no frills and definitely no fashion statement. Why bother, it's getting scuffed anyways. No nice wheels, no fancy paint, heck let the dirt just build up, it'll rain someday.
