ok so today is the day that i get to see hugh do something that im better at, it doesnt happen very often, but when it does i love it!!
we went to Dart riding stables and did their 'river wild trek' it was a 2-3 ride through the base of the mountains, and around the dart river basin, with several river crossings along the way. hugh was put on a grey called Baxter and taught the basics like holding on! i was given a nutty horse called Eden, who was mostly interesting in throwing his head around and eating.
we began along the road and the girl, (who was from kent) told us some facts about the tiny village that we had stumbled across, there are 250 people and 200 dogs, and 450 horses, so we were told that every man and his dog has a horse!!
the village of glenorchy is where they did alot of the filming for the lord of the ring trilogy, and also alot of car ads, for example the series 3 disco. and therefore has some truly amazing scenery.
we got to do a gental trot to start with, which sent our line of 6 horses into a state of dissary. the girls that where also on the trip lost the plot and were all over the place with there horses backing to kick each other, and me and eden. hugh was far behinf desperatly booting baxter to try and get him to move forward!!! later on after a few more trots, and alot more fantastic scenery we all got to try out a canter. at this point hugh had been given a branch of willow by our guide so that he had a hope of keeping up, and i was behind him to try and egg them on. hugh was amazing and had a very succsessful canter, and almost looked like he knew what he was doing, i was very proud of him!!
the river crossings were something else. if you mad the mistake of looking down and the running water it was totally disorianting, but the horses knew what they were doing and guided us to saftey!!
all in all a fantastic day out, although we are both walking a little bit like cowboys now, which is not really a good look!!!
