ok so today we went to investigate the fiordland national park. we chose to go to milford sound... unfortunatly all our hopes of a sunny hike along the water were dashed by serious rain. instead we boarded a scenic nature cruise into the sound. once on the boat we headed to the top deck so that we had a better veiw of this stunning land that was all carved out by glaciers. the main feature of this was the water falls that we could see, many of these the skipper explained to us would vanish again with in hours of the rain stopping. something that we were not in danger of happening. he took us almost under the base of one of the bigger ones, and so everyone, including me on the top deck got totally drenched. from the boat we did not sere much if anything in the way of wildlife, but i put that partly down to the weather, and partly to how lucky we were in akaroa with everything that we saw there.
as we drove home the mountains were coverd with waterfalls created by the rain that looked like veins. i begans to worry as the hard rock that made up the area did not seem to be taking in any of the water, but in stead letting it run down, towards us and the road.. but we were fine, saved by a network of streams and creeks that were bursting at the banks by the time we left. that evening kwe headed back to te anau fo another quite evening in.
