So it's day one adventure. We headed off at nine this morning for our little day trip. For those of u who don't know new Zealand, where we are staying now is on the cantabury plains, which is a place so flat that you can almost see the curvature of the earth. The only interesting thing that you can see is mount Hutt in the distance. So all the roads are also very straight too.
As we headed off we went past the salmon centre which has a statue of a 15ft salmon outside it, and made me think of dad. As we traveled on the road started to curve and climb up into the mountains, and let me tell you the scenery is incredible. We stopped on the side of the road several times to take pics and have a little wander around.
We took the aptly named tourist route into akaroa which gave us a chance to look down from the mountain over the harbour, a pic of which u can see in the photo album.
Once we got to akaroa we went for a bite to eat. Despite being told that we needed to try the locally farmed salmon we both opted out, but none the less lunch was spectacular!
After that we went on a fantastic nature cruise into the harbour and out into the ocean. We saw a royal albatross and White flippered penguins, hectors dolphins and seals. It was a fantastic chance for us to see loads of rare species and have a fun day out.
All in all despite a little bit of sunburn it was a great day.

Emma-Jane Sounds like you have both had a lovely day! Akaroa is a stunning place. Great to hear that you have only been in NZ a day and you have already seen Dolphins, Penguins, Seals and Albatross. Spk again soon, take care love E-J x
Helen and dave Well let us tell you about our day.....left a 6 shared a car up the m3, which is also very straight, dropped dave at work (see attached pic) m25 to north London - I had a horrible lunch from the canteen, dave forgot his. Finshed at 5 currently on m3 going home writing this blog to entertain ourselves
Dad & Flower Not to be outdone, left at 6:40 for IOW leaving Dad and Dave at home (well, after he dropped me off at the petrol station where I bought him his latte and a plastic sausage sandwich 'I like to be able to close my eyes and know what I am eating'). Started the day in the office at 8, at Biskra Beach House by 9 to face 17 13-14 year olds and the IOW Young Chamber of Commerce. Saw a seal in the Solent. Had packet sarnies. Returned to desk for 3 to face the music...Dad doing 4 days of w-up grouse on 2 days in August (clearly thinks he can clone himself). Selling stalking, cleaning up poo (Dave still outsmarting him) had a thrilling evening planning the veg patch. Helen you guys want to catch up to commiserate before you go? Charlotte anything you forgot you want me to send with H&D?
Helen & Dave Hi Jen!! what a great way to not only share but message each other!! would love to see you before we go (and if i'm honest would love to see little dave!) have got charlottes dress and hughs shirt - will collect anything else they may need - Hugh charlotte, sounds like you are having an amazing time - we're just jealous (dave more than me, as i will be there soon!) can't wait - have fun enjoy xxx
Cathy ....aaaaaahaaaaa! Eventually got into here! (yes, the 'numpties struggle with this technology!). Anyway, so great to hear you visited Akaroa - John and I loved it here as well. Can now keep 'tabs' on you both..... don't forget to plaster with sunscreen every day - there is nothing in the ozone to protect you in NZ - Em will give you a lecture if we hear you have both ended up looking like lobsters!! Love Ma xxxxxxxx
Dad & Flower Charlotte, if you do get sunburnt, let us know and we will drop by Cathy's to pick up some aloe to give to Helen to bring to you. Dad

Ems Exciting times :-D Sounds like you're having a great fun... Looking forward to reading many more. Looks like our next stop will be Bonaire, sadly not New Zealand! Not that i'm complaining. Big love to you guys xoxo
Jo WOW really jealous!!!! So glad you're having a good time...enjoy :].. I went to Court Leet meeting last night and they didn't mention Downs but..Phillip Marshall asked to speak to me after and he said we would be allowed to ride on Downs but we had to be patient!! So I had a discreet chat with Guy Boney who's Lord of the Manor and he told me to keep the pressure on the NT and we are doing the right thing and he is aware that it's a 'hot potato' at the mo oh and I also threw in the bridleway issue with Phil Marshall who denied all knowledge so I offered to show him map..just so he knows we've got more ammo if necessary!! Enough of all that, have a great time can't wait to read more news! Lotsaluv Jo xxxxxx
The Little Tickle Ahhhhh, I'm sat in doing assignments, so incredibly jealous.. Take loads of photos and keep us all posted on your antics, Lots of love to you both, stay safe xxxx
Dad and Flower Promises promises Charlotte! We are tuning in every day for our fix of Hugh, and no blog in sight. Manage those expectations!!! And yes, we know it is unfair, but no one ever blames Hugh. It is never his fault, responsibility or problem...love you! Want skydiving photos.
Bob Morriss I am trying to rent a car in Akaroa for one day March 25. I am hoping to drive to Clearwater Golf Course to play golf. I am on a cruise and in port from 7 AM to 7 PM. I cannot find a car rental office.
